Truck rams through traffic light, killing one
At around 7 p.m., numerous vehicles were stopped at a traffic light at the Thuan An Hoa-My Phuoc-Tan Van intersection in Thuan Giao Ward. A truck then came from behind and rammed into the rows of vehicles. Three motorbikes were heavily damaged by the impact. A 20-year-old man died on the spot. Two other people were rushed to the hospital. Nearby vegetable stalls were also damaged in the incident. "I was sitting inside my house when I heard a loud crash. When I ran outside, I heard screams and saw 2-3 people lying on the road," a witness said. The accident caused a traffic jam, and police officers were dispatched to barricade the area. The modern, cable-stayed bridge connecting downtown Hanoi to its airport is now a colorful work of changing LED art at night. Nhat Tan bridge, one of seven main bridges in Hanoi, is the longest steel cable-stayed bridge in Vietnam and considered a new symbol of the capital city as it creates new Hanoi urban facelift. Located on Ring Road 3, the nine-kilometer Nhat Tan bridge (or Vietnam-Japan Friendship bridge) is the longest suspension bridge in Vietnam. It is a cable-stayed bridge crossing the Red river in Hanoi, inaugurated on January 4, 2015. This bridge, the gateway to Hanoi, also serves as a symbol of friendship between Vietnam and Japan. Ho Chi Minh City targets zero-emission public transportation
Ho Chi Minh City may start its transition to zero-emission public transportation in the outlying district of Can Gio, where the city seeks to achieve the 100-percent adoption and usage of electric vehicles (EV), said a local transport official. At its ongoing fifth session on Tuesday, the lawmaking National Assembly was discussing a draft resolution on pilot special mechanisms and policies for the development of the southern city. The resolution, once approved and put into action, is expected to boost the city’s economic growth as well as make it greener and closer to or on a par with major cities in the world, said Tran Quang Lam, director of the municipal Department of Transport. Bolt desperate for impactful role in track and field
Usain Bolt said he is desperate to play a role in reviving the sport that made him a global superstar but has experienced something of a decline since his retirement six years ago. The Jamaican, who dominated men's sprinting for nearly a decade after the 2008 Beijing Olympics, said he had found plenty to do to keep himself busy but was really keen to remain involved in sport. "I spend my time doing a lot of family things, when it comes to track and field, not as much as I would want to but I still try and stay in touch with what is going on," the 36-year-old told Reuters.
