Jakarta (VNA) - An Indonesian anti-corruption investigator said that a new law governing the country’s anti-graft agency could unleash a spike in corruption in Southeast Asia’s biggest economy. In September, Indonesia’s parliament approved changes to a law overseeing the Corruption Eradication Commission, one of the country’s most respected agencies. Under the new law, the agency, known by its Indonesian initials KPK, will be overseen by an Oversight Council, handpicked by President Joko Widodo, and investigators will lose their right to wiretap suspects without a warrant. “The trend of corruption will increase,” Novel Baswedan said in an interview with Reuters, arguing the new law increased the potential for leaks over investigations. HCMC police rewarded for cracking massive drug trafficking ring
Deputy Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee Ngo Minh Chau lauded the groups of police, stressing that the success in destroying the cross-country massive drug trafficking ring also manifests police forces to closely work together to handle drug trafficking and crack down drug criminals. As Sai Gon Giai Phong Newspaper published police has unearthed a drug trafficking ring in Ho Chi Minh City in March, 2019 seizing 895 packs of heroin. Police investigators have expanded their probe into the ring. Consequently, early November, they raided five warehouses in the city arresting many Taiwanese who transported drug. Drug investigators have seized 446 packs of heroin worth more than US$6 million from searching these warehouses. Police are hunting a Taiwanese. Vietnam, Germany hold consultations to endorse strategic action plan
"Based on common interests, Germany and Vietnam will deepen their cooperation as part of their strategic modernization partnership," State Secretary Andreas Michaelis and Vietnam's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs To Anh Dung agreed on this year's German-Vietnamese consultations. The consultations held in Hanoi on Wednesday endorsed the Strategic Action Plan for 2020-21 calling on Germany and Vietnam to uphold rule-based order and respect for international law, in particular the protection of human rights and principles regarding sovereignty and the rule of law, the German Embassy said in a press release on Friday. The new Strategic Action Plan is the basis and guideline for German-Vietnamese cooperation for the next two years.
