FDI to Vietnam’s real estate rises by over 70% in 2022

Vietnam's real estate market continues to show strong appeal to foreign investors despite global economic difficulties. The foreign direct investment (FDI) into Vietnam’s real estate market in 2022 rose by over 70% yearly to US$4.45 billion, focusing on industrial and large-scale commercial projects, according to the Ministry of Construction (MoC). File photo The MIC’s report suggested that real estate stands second among sectors with the highest FDI attraction in 2022, which showcases “the strong appeal of the market to foreign investors amid a difficult global economic environment.” Neil MacGregor, Managing Director of Savills Vietnam, echoed this view by saying foreign investors remain attracted to Vietnam, especially in production, retail, logistics, and real estate. The survey showed that the overall national poverty ratio was 7.52%, with 4.03% being poor households and 3.49% being near-poor families. The highest poverty ratio based on the multi-dimensional poverty standards was in the northern midland and mountainous region, at 21.92%, followed by the Central Highlands at 15.39%, the north-central and central coastal region at 10.04%, the Mekong Delta region at 5.73%, the Red River Delta region at 2.45%, and the southeast region, 0.34%. The northern midland and mountainous region led in both ratios of poor and near-poor households (14.23% and 7.69%, respectively), while the southeast region reported the lowest ratios at 0.21% and 0.13%, respectively. The data of the survey serve a foundation for the ministry to decide poverty reduction and social welfare policies as well as other socio-economic policies in 2023. Thailand warns of dangerous fine-dust pollution

Bangkok (VNA) - The Thai government has advised people to wear masks when going out and consider working from home on February 2 and 3 to avoid PM2.5 fine dust pollution, which is currently at a dangerously high level. The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) forecasts PM2.5 levels will rise across much of the country on the two days as the fine-dust pollution accumulates in stagnant air. PM2.5 has been linked with heart and lung diseases as well as cancer. According to government spokesman Anucha Burapachaisri , Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha is concerned about people’s health, especially those of vulnerable groups, and advises them to wear sanitary or N95 masks when leaving the house, and to avoid prolonged outdoor activities.
