VNGOVNet - A meeting between the leaders of the Southeast Asian APEC countries and the United States of America was held on the sidelines of the 14th APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in the morning of November 18 at the Hanoi International Convention Center. SOM III to Create Foundation for 14th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting
Around 1,500 representatives from 21 member economies of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum will attend the third APEC Senior Officials' Meeting (SOM III) and related conferences in Da Nang city, and Quang Nam province's Hoi An ancient town from Sept. 6 to 17. At SOM III, participants will finalize the agenda agreed at SOM I and SOM II so as to prepare for the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting which will take place in Ha Noi in November. Deputy Foreign Minister Le Cong Phung, who is Chair of SOM and Head of the 2006 APEC Secretariat, said that SOM III will be an important part of the 2006 APEC Year. What is achieved at SOM III will be discussed at the APEC Ministerial Meeting, the APEC Trade Ministers' Meeting and the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting all of which are aimed at unifying cooperation in the region. The President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour, Dang Ngoc Tung, joined other trade union leaders from Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) economies at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on September 3. APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting 2009 concludes
The 17th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting has concluded with a declaration on ‘sustainable growth and connecting the region’ and a statement on a ‘new growth paradigm for a connected Asia-Pacific in the 21st century’. The APEC leaders agreed to continue stimulus measures and to implement a growth policy which is comprehensive, balanced and sustainable to ensure long-term economic recovery as outlined by the G20 summit in September this year. They reiterated their commitment to the Bogor goals of trade liberalization and investment, and assigned their respective ministers to assess the results of developing economies implementing these goals in 2010. The leaders pledged to jointly deal with the challenges of climate change, looking towards the Copenhagen summit scheduled for December 2009.
