Dang Anh Dung, deputy general director of the e-commerce platform Lazada Vietnam's e-commerce topped the region in terms of growth rate in 2022, according to the latest report from Google, Temasek, and Bain & Company. Selex Motors, a Vietnamese start-up developing a smart electric scooter ecosystem in Vietnam, has helped define ‘Made-in-Vietnam’ electric vehicles (EVs), specifically electric scooters, as its products are completely manufactured in the Southeast Asian nation. Selex Motors co-founders are Nguyen Huu Phuoc Nguyen, Nguyen Trong Hai, and Nguyen Dinh Quang. Both Nguyen and Hai earned a PhD in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan and worked for many companies in both the U.S. and Vietnam. Several e-commerce platforms in Vietnam reported a decrease in the value of sales despite having launched many promotions. Consumers on e-commerce platforms used to prefer high-end, luxury items. The trend has changed, however, as buyers now focus on healthcare products, sportswear, and fitness products. The reason for this change is the impact of economic difficulties and inflation, many vendors on e-commerce platforms believed. They added that buyers now tend to seek healthcare products with reasonable prices and prefer direct discounts. Hung, whose online store specializes in selling phone accessories and electronic goods, said that the revenue of this group of products decreased by nearly 40 percent compared to the same period last year.
