Vietnam, Turkey urged to expand economic cooperation

Vietnamese and Turkish officials take a photo together (Source: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) - Turkish Minister of Science, Industry and Technology Faruk Özlü has suggested Vietnam and his country enhance economic, trade and technology cooperation. Özlü made the suggestion during a recent meeting with Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Van Trung and deputy head of the National Assembly's Law Committee Hoang Thanh Tung, who were on a working visit to Turkey to learn about building free economic zones and concentrated industrial parks (IPs). The Turkish official spent time introducing his Vietnamese guests to Turkey’s mechanisms for managing more than 300 concentrated IPs, coordination among the state, localities and enterprises in the work, and preferential policies for domestic and foreign firms to invest in IPs. Binh Thuan reviews project to enhance agricultural opportunities for women

Illustrative photo (Source: VNA) Binh Thuan (VNA) – A workshop was held in the central province of Binh Thuan on December 21 to review the results of the project “Enhancing Opportunities for Women’s Enterprises (EOWE)”, which has been underway in the province since 2016. The EOWE Project, part of the “Funding Leadership and Opportunities for Women (FLOW)” programme, is being implemented in the provinces of Binh Thuan, Ninh Thuan, Quang Binh, and Binh Dinh by the SNV Netherlands Development Organisation between 2016 and 2020, with funding from the Netherlands’ Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The FLOW-EOWE project aims to advance women’s economic participation and self-reliance by creating a conducive environment for female entrepreneurship as a vehicle for change. Investors step up M&A movements

The remainder of 2019 will be key for Vietnam to avail of longer-term investment possibilities, Photo: Le Toan Warrick Cleine, chairman and CEO of KPMG Vietnam, told VIR that they have seen tremendous ­confidence in Vietnam from large ­investors, especially from the likes of Japan, South Korea, and Singapore. The trend has expanded from the ­acquisition of 100 per cent or control of Vietnamese companies, such as the Sabeco deal from Thailand, to minority or strategic investments in large Vietnamese companies. Deborah Greenfield, Deputy Director-General for Policy at the International Labour Organisation, spoke to Viet Nam News reporter Thu Vân about the Vietnamese Government's efforts to change its labour laws in line with requirements on labour rights in free trade agreements it has recently ratified, like the CPTPP and the EVFTA, as well as the challenges ahead in the world of work.  Việt Nam has recently ratified the CPTPP and signed the EVFTA, and these two trade agreements include provisions on labour rights and require the country to make certain changes to its labour laws. Việt Nam has made changes to its labour code, ratified the ILO Convention 98 and plans to ratify Convention 87 on the freedom of association by 2023. In 2003, the author of this article, in the capacity as a leader of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, attended a meeting at the top decision-making level to consider the issue of this policy attached to the 2005 Housing Law.
