Large-scale downpours are forecast in southern Vietnam this weekend before spreading to other regions from next Monday, adding that around two tropical storms or depressions could hit the East Vietnam Sea and affect the country’s northern, central regions from now till October 20, the national weather center said on Friday. The southern, south-central, and Central Highlands regions will likely experience scattered showers and thunderstorms over the weekend, while moderate to heavy downpours may lash some areas in these regions in the evening. From Monday next week, the northern and north-central regions could mostly see night-time showers and thunderstorms, with torrential rains expected in such northern mountainous provinces as Lai Chau, Dien Bien, and Lao Cai. Rare primate returned to nature in Binh Phuoc province

(Photo: VNA) Binh Phuoc (VNA) – The forest ranging department of Dong Phu district, the southern province of Binh Phuoc, said it joined hands with competent authorities to release a female stump-tailed macaque into the nature . The animal, weighing 4 kilogrammes, belongs to an endangered, precious and rare species listed in Group IIB of the Vietnam Red Data Book. The primate was found straying in Thuan Phu commune, Dong Phu district. It was then captured and taken to the department where it received proper care and came back to good health conditions before being returned to the nature. The stump-tailed macaque (Macaca arctoides), also called the bear macaque, is native to South Asia and Southeast Asia. It lives in tropical and subtropical evergreen forests, with altitudes of up to 2,000 metres. Over 585 tons of rice delivered to needy people in Dak Lak
Accordingly, from September 25-28, rice is allocated to people in need in the districts Lak, Krong Ana, Krong Bong, Krong Nang, Krong Buk, Ea H’leo, M’Drak, Buon Don, Ea Sup, Cu M’gar. Lak district receives the largest amount with more than 133 tons. Ethnic minorities account for 67% of the district’s population, with over 8,000 poor households. Floods that occurred in late July and early this month inundated nearly 3,000 hectares of Summer-Autumn rice, of which more than 2,000 hectares were destroyed. Lak district is the province's rice granary. Dak Lak is one of the six localities receiving rice from the national reserve under Decision No.1049/QD-TTg dated September 13, 2023 signed by Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai. Vietnam breaks up inter-provincial military weapons trading ring
Border guards in Kien Giang Province, southern Vietnam, in collaboration with the police forces of Kien Giang, Kon Tum, and Binh Thuan Provinces, recently apprehended six individuals involved in the illicit trade of military weapons. As a result of the operation, 14 firearms, 94 rounds of ammunition, and various related documents were seized, the border guard agency said on Friday. The aforementioned joint forces raided a café at 898 Nguyen Trung Truc Street in Rach Gia City, Kien Giang Province at 8:00 am on September 17.
