The event was jointly hosted by the Association of Vietnamese Studies (AVS) in the RoK and the Busan University of Foreign Studies. In his opening speech, Chairman of AVS Prof. Bae Yang-soo spotlighted the strong development of the RoK – Vietnam cooperative relations across fields over the last 30 years. He stressed the need to enhance academic exchanges between scholars and researchers, especially those working on Vietnamese studies, of the two countries in the coming time. Vietnam returns remains of US MIA soldiers
The Vietnam Office for Seeking Missing Persons (VNOSMP) handed over to U.S. agencies two sets of remains believed to belong to American soldiers who died during the war in Vietnam that ended in 1975. The handover was conducted at a ceremony held at Da Nang International Airport on Thursday, during which the remains were received by representatives of the U.S. MIA (missing-in-action) Office in Hanoi and the U.S. Embassy in Vietnam, according to the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The remains were found during the 146th and 147th joint searches by the two countries held from February to June this year, the VNOSMP said. After examining the remains, Vietnamese and American forensic specialists concluded that they might be associated with U.S. servicemen who were reported as missing in action in Vietnam in wartime, so a decision was made to transport them to Hawaii for further verification. The competition, part of the Taste of Australia event, was organised by the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) and supported by Vietnam’s Graduates from Australia Club (VGAC). It had two rounds – an online one held from May 12-June 4; and a final round held on June 25 in Ho Chi Minh City. All contestants registered for the online round submitted video clips with two cups with two different patterns from four subjects - Heart, Tulip, Rosetta and Swan. Sixteen submissions competed in the final round and the top three winners were chosen by a panel of judges featuring: Dang The Lan (Alumnus of Central Queensland University; Founder and Managing Director, The Lovely Cup O’ Coffee; 3rd Place Winner of the Southern Region Latte Art Championship in 2013 Australia); and Pham Minh Luan (Alumnus of RMIT Vietnam; Founder, Hyper Coffee).
