Vietnam is considered to be one of the few safest countries in the world, according to the Global Terrorism Index 2017 report of the Australian Institute for Economic & Peace. The 2017 report highlights how terrorism remains unevenly spread throughout the world. Central America and the Caribbean continues to be the least affected region. There were only 12 deaths recorded in 2016, which accounts for less than 0.4 per cent of all terrorism deaths. Thailand expects to serve 30 million foreign arrivals this year
Chiang Mai, Thailand (Photo: Thaiairways) Bangkok (VNA) - Thailand's tourism industry expects foreign arrivals to exceed 30 million in 2023, higher than government estimates of 25-27.5 million. Making the forecast on January 31, the Tourism Council of Thailand (TCT) predicted foreign and domestic tourists will generate over 3 trillion baht (91 billion USD) in revenue this year. However, TCT President Chamnan Srisawat warned the huge volume of visitors will pose challenges for the Thai tourism industry, which is still recovering after the COVID-19 pandemic. Most tourism businesses are still suffering liquidity and labour shortages, he explained, while some are missing out on new opportunities. 4 undersea Internet cables face problems, affecting Vietnam’s international connections
Four out of the five submarine Internet cable systems connecting Vietnam to the world are facing problems, with the latest failure recorded on Saturday, seriously affecting users’ international connections, an Internet service provider (ISP) said. The Intra Asia (IA) cable system encountered problems on January 28 when a cable breakage happened about 130 kilometers from a shoreline station in Singapore, leading to a total loss of international data from Vietnam to the city-state, the ISP said. This system, with a total length of 6,800 kilometers, has been in operation since November 2009 to connect Internet users in Singapore, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Japan, and Vietnam. It also served as an important route for Internet data transit to the Americas and Europe from users in Vietnam and other regional countries. Health Ministry orders enhanced COVID-19 response
It made the request in a recent document sent to leaders of provincial-level health departments, hospitals and institutes under its management, and health divisions of other ministries and sectors. The MoH pointed out that the COVID-19 situation remains complicated as the world with new variants continually recorded, including the immune evasive and highly transmissible XBB that has been reported in 70 countries. It asked the relevant parties to review and step up the reception and treatment of COVID-19 patients; gear up sufficient personnel, medicine, and medical supplies; continue training for health workers; increase consultation within hospitals and with higher-level ones; and boost prevention measures to minimize disease spreading in hospitals, especially among vulnerable groups of patients.
