(Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – Workers nationwide will have a total of four days off from September 1 to 4 on the occasion of National Day , according to the Office of the Government. From 2021, Vietnam has a total of 11 public holidays , while the number of days off for National Day (September 2) increases from one to two, reported the Vietnam Government Portal (VGP). If any holiday falls on the weekend, people will be entitled to an extra day off as compensation. As this year's National Day (September 2, 2022) is on Friday, so workers nationwide will have a total of four days off. If employees work part-time, they will get at least 150% of the daily wages; 200% on their rest day; 300% on national holidays. Do Son Buffalo Fighting Festival to be held from Aug. 27-Sept. 11

(Photo: VNA) Hai Phong (VNA) – The traditional Do Son Buffalo Fighting Festival will take place at Do Son district’s Stadium in the northern city of Hai Phong from August 27 to September 11, according to Pham Hoang Tuan, Vice Chairman of the Do Son People's Committee. He said the festival includes two parts – spiritual rites and festivities - with the first part comprising activities such as incense offering and flag raising ceremonies, and procession, among others. Buffalo fighting is a unique and traditional festival of the local people. The festival is not only associated with Water Goddess worshiping and sacrificing customs, but also illustrates the planning and strategy and training capacity of buffalo owners. Children in kindergartens will return to school on August 31 . Under the decision approved by the municipal People’s Committee on August 10 on the 2022–2023 school year calendar for public schools, children in kindergartens will return to school on August 31 after the summer vacation. The opening ceremony of the new 2022-2023 academic year will take place on September 5. The first semester will run from September 5 to January 14, 2023 while the second semester will start from January 16 to May 20, 2023. The school year will end from May 22-26, 2023. Flash floods strand 1,000 people in California’s Death Valley National Park
Flash flooding triggered by a near-record downpour on Friday over one of the hottest, driest spots on Earth has stranded nearly 1,000 people inside California's Death Valley National Park and forced its temporary closure, park officials said. About 60 cars belonging to park visitors and staff were buried in several feet of debris at the Inn at Death Valley, an historic luxury hotel near the park headquarters in Furnace Creek, site of a spring-fed oasis near the Nevada border, the park said in a statement. Floodwaters also pushed trash dumpsters into parked cars, shoving vehicles into each other, and swamped many facilities, some hotel rooms and business offices, it said. No injuries were reported. But about 500 visitors and 500 park staff were unable to leave the park because all roads into and out of Death Valley were closed, according to the statement.
