Vietnam to evacuate 80,000 people from Danang with preventive measures in place

The Hanoitimes - Vietnam’s airlines have added more flights to Danang to airlift tourists out of the city, totaling about 130 flights from the city since July 26. Some 80,000 tourists are stuck in Danang and find ways to return home, each province and city is taking their own preventive measures while awaiting the prime minister's instructions. Each locality including Danang city is empowered to adopt their own measures to combat Covid-19. Photo: Zing As of July 26, flights from Danang to the provinces were still considered as regular flights. On the morning of July 27, flights to and from the city were still allowed. From 12am of July 28, six districts with around one million people in Danang have been put under lockdown and transport is banned to and from the city. On July 26, the medical quarantine unit of Danang airport requested air passengers leaving the city to make medical declaration before boarding. All airlines are required to provide the contact of passengers on each flight to the medical quarantine unit for checking. Vietjet requested passengers on flights departing from Danang during this period to make paper or electronic medical declaration at the airport. Vietnam Airlines, which operates 10 air routes from Danang to different localities, said the airplanes are thoroughly disinfected every day. Pre-boarding health check is conducted. Passengers are provided with face masks, gloves and antiseptic towels. Passengers are also required to wear face masks during the whole flight. All members of the flight crew have to wear medical protective gear. Passengers are applied safety measures and their health status is monitored after landing. On July 26, there were eight ferry flights (without passengers) taking off from Noi Bai airport to Danang to airlift passengers. Vietnam announces 2 more Covid-19 deaths, aged 33 and 47

The Hanoitimes - The two patients are the youngest victims in Vietnam so far. Two women diagnosed with Covid-19, aged 33 and 47, died on August 10, taking Vietnam’s pandemic death toll to 13, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH). Both patients are residents of Danang, the national outbreak epicenter now, and had suffered several serious pre-existing illnesses. The first victim, Patient No.430, was a 33-year-old female with late-stage kidney failure, heart failure, sepsis, and hypertension. She felt fatigue and shortness of breath and was referred to Danang Hospital on July 23. The patient was isolated and sampled for coronavirus testing and the result came positive on July 26. The two latest Covid-19 fatalities suffered several serious pre-existing illnesses. Illustrative photo: Hoang Giam She was transferred to Hue Central General Hospital in the neighboring province of Thua Thien-Hue on July 30 where she was placed on artificial blood filtration and then on a ventilator. She was intubated and put on mechanical ventilation on August 1 before getting connected to ECMO, a form of out-side-the-body life support, two days later. Her conditions continued worsening and she died at 0:30 on August 10. The second fatality was Patient No.737, a 47-year-old woman, also with late-stage kidney failure, heart failure and hypertension. On July 27, she tested negative for the coronavirus while in quarantine, but a second test on August 4 turned positive. She was transferred to Danang Hospital and then to Hoa Vang district’s medical center on August 6. She suffered from respiratory failure on August 9 and had to be put on a ventilator. She died at 1:15 on August 10 after having gone into a deep coma. The two patients are the youngest victims in Vietnam. Vietnam cuts all passenger transport services to and from Danang to curb virus spread

The Hanoitimes - Cargo flights and vehicles are not affected by this ban. The Vietnamese Ministry of Transport decided to suspend all passenger transport services to and from Danang from 12am of July 28, complying with a social distancing order in the resort city. Local tourists are waiting to check in at Danang airport on July 26. Photo: VnExpress The decision will be in place in next 15 days to deter the outbreak of the novel coronavirus in the city. As such, all passenger flights between Danang and other localities are suspended. Regarding road transport, the ministry requested all inter/intra-provincial transport services including contracted cars, taxis, and buses from/to the city to stop, except for special cases. Passenger vehicles going through Danang are not to be allowed to stop and park in the city. Train services to Danang are also suspended. North-South passenger trains are not allowed to pick up or drop off passengers at Danang station. Ships and river boats must stop transporting passengers from and to Danang, except for special cases. Cargo flights and vehicles are not affected by this ban. In the evening of July 27, Vietnamese air carriers were ordered by the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam to increase the number of airplanes to airlift tourists out of the city before 12pm of the same day. From 12am of July 28, six districts with around one million people in Danang have been put under lockdown and transport services are banned in the city. As the first local virus infection was detected in Danang after months without community transmission, measures during the social distancing period will include wearing of face masks in public places and public means of transport, the suspension of non-essential services, entertainment activities and public transport, and limiting private vehicles.
