Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son meets US counterpart, National Security Advisor in Washington

FM Bui Thanh Son (R) meets US Secretary of State Antony Blinken (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son , who is accompanying Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh during his US trip, met with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan in Washington D.C on May 13 (local time). At the meetings, FM Son thanked the US Department of State and the US National Security Council for helping promote the Vietnam-US relations over the years, especially through the close coordination in organising the ASEAN-US Special Summit. The two sides shared pleasure that US President Joe Biden and PM Pham Minh Chinh had a meeting on the sidelines of the summit, during which they engaged in practical discussions on the bilateral relations between the two countries as well as regional and international issues of shared concern. US-ASEAN Joint Statement released, reaffirming more comprehensive Dialogue Relations

The relations would be enhanced through commitments in a wide range of fields, including economic, maritime cooperation, building trust, and people-to-people links. ASEAN member states and the US have reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthen and build more comprehensive ASEAN-US Dialogue Relations. The declaration was included in a joint vision statement released at the US-ASEAN Special Summit, the first-ever held in Washington, D.C., on May 12-13 with the participation of the US president and leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member states. The tightened relations are aimed to promote peace, security, stability, and prosperity in the region and ensure that relations remain adaptable to meet new challenges; and appropriately cooperate in international and regional fora of which ASEAN member states and the US are members. Hoang Xuan Chien made the comment while delivering a speech at the ASEAN Defense Senior Officials’ Meeting Plus (ADSOM ) in Phnom Penh on May 18. He stressed the need to comply with the Declaration of the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and accelerate the early signing of a practical and effective Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC). Vietnam calls for ensuring food security for global peace and development

During the debate, the Vietnamese diplomat said Vietnam shares the international community's common concern about increasing challenges facing the global food system due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change and natural disasters.
