The corridor running 1,450km through Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam is an economic development programme initiated to promote development and integration of five Southeast Asian countries, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. The concept was agreed in 1998 at the Ministerial Conference of the Greater Mekong Subregion, organised in Manila, Philippines. This corridor became operational on December 12, 2006. In his presentation, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Ngoc Thien pointed out the achievements and limitations in culture and human development over recent times. He suggested cultural building in politics and economy, with attention paid to cultural building in the Party, State agencies, and mass organisations, which, he said, is a crucial factor in building a pure and strong political system. These strategic moves align with the country’s vision in strengthening its digital economy which is expected to top $43 billion by 2025. Moreover, last year the Government Office launched the National e-Document Exchange Platform, a move towards building a foundation for integration and sharing of national digital data. Vietnam’s provincial governments are also ramping up efforts with new action plans to realise their smart city dreams.
