Vietnamese students bag three gold medals at int’l physics competition

Vietnam ended the tournament held in Israel in fourth position after China, South Korea and Russia, the Ministry of Education and Training announced on its website Sunday. The three gold medals were won by Tran Xuan Tung of the Hanoi Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, Nguyen Xuan Ung from the Hanoi University of Science's High School for the Gifted, and Nguyen Khanh Linh from Lam Son High School for the Gifted in Thanh Hoa Province, central Vietnam. Linh also won a special award as the female contestant with the highest achievements at this year’s contest. The silver medals were won by Le Viet Hoang from the Bien Hoa High School for the Gifted in the northern province of Ha Nam and Trinh Duy Hieu from the Bac Giang High School for the Gifted in northern Vietnam. US-China trade war to exert pressure on local production: official

At the meeting (Source: VNA) Hanoi, August 9 (VNA) – Domestic production has faced strong competition as the US and China are increasing exports to Vietnam on the back of their escalating trade war, head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s Trade Remedies Authority of Vietnam Le Trieu Dung said on August 9. At a meeting with Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh on the day, Dung said the US-China trade conflict becomes more intense after the North American country announced to impose additional tariff of 10 percent on the remaining 300 billion USD of goods and products coming from China to the US, and sees China as “currency manipulator”. This will result in considerable competition among local producers, and there is a strong possibility that shipments originating from Vietnam will face protective trade measures in many other nations. Vietnam finishes fifth out of 80 teams at International Chemistry Olympiad

Their combined score put the team in fifth position out of 80 countries and territories behind China, South Korea, Russia, and the U.S., the Ministry of Education and Training said on Monday. The gold medals were won by Tran Ba Tan of the Hanoi Amsterdam High School for the Gifted and Nguyen Van Chi Nguyen of the Lam Son High School for the Gifted in the central province of Thanh Hoa. Tan also won the Best Practical Exam award with the maximum points in his practical test. Nguyen Dinh Hoang of the Nguyen Tat Thanh High School for the Gifted in the northern province of Yen Bai and Pham Thanh Lam from Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted in the northern Nam Dinh Province won the silver medals. The International Chemistry Olympiad is an annual event for high school students. Held this year from July 21 to 30, it attracted more than 300 contestants from 80 countries and territories. FDI attraction in wood sector should be selective

The Vietnamese wood sector remains attractive to foreign investors Increase of new projects A report by researchers from Vietnamese wood associations and the Forest Trends organization shows that in the first nine months of 2019, the Vietnamese wood sector attracted 67 new FDI projects with total capital of more than US$581 million, equivalent to 216 percent of all FDI capital attracted by this industry in 2018. According to To Xuan Phuc, an expert from Forest Trends, FDI in the wood sector is expanding through new projects, increases in the capital of ongoing projects, and capital contributions through stock purchases. FDI expansion reflects the attraction of the wood sector and its advantages such as low labor cost and easy access to input material resources.
