More than 200 outstanding young Vietnamese people have just paid a visit to the Spratly Islands. During their week-long visit from May 29 to June 4 to four islands in the Spratly Archipelago and the DK 1 Platform, an offshore economic, scientific, and technical service station on Vietnam’s southern continental shelf, the delegation, participated in many events and activities and presented gifts to soldiers and local people. Miss Vietnam 2020 Do Thi Ha and Miss Grand Vietnam 2022 Doan Thien An were among the delegates. Ha said that she had to equip herself with knowledge and information on the country’s sea and islands and prepared some presents for soldiers and local people. OVs visit Truong Sa, DK1 platforms
The visit was in the program themed “10th Trust and Aspiration for the Fatherland - Overseas Vietnam (OVs) to Truong Sa,” which concluded on April 23 in Khanh Hoa province. This was the tenth trip jointly organized for OVs by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' State Commission for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs (SCOV), and the Naval Command. According to Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Vu, since 2013, the SCOV and the Naval Command have brought over 500 OVs to visit Truong Sa island district and the DK1 platforms. Mr. Vu highlighted these visits which have helped confirm Vietnam’s sovereignty over the Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago and give OVs chances to exchange with their compatriots at home, thus enhancing the great national unity bloc. Singapore comedian’s jokes about MH370 plane disappearance draw ire
In a video that has been circulating on the Internet since Wednesday, Jocelyn Chia joked about how Malaysian airplanes "cannot fly" during a stand-up performance at a comedy club in the U.S. "Malaysian Airlines going missing not funny huh?" she said in the video. "Some jokes don't land," she added, seemingly referring to the disappearance of Malaysian Airlines MH370, with 239 people on board now presumed dead. She also made crude remarks about Malaysia as a country, with quips like "they don't have Internet." The jokes drew quick criticisms from online communities and authorities from both Malaysia and Singapore alike. "This is so disrespectful and you shouldn't use the airlines as a joke to those families that had lost their loved ones," read one comment posted about the video on Facebook.
