It’s no wonder traffic accidents have surged this month, with hundreds killed during the week-long holiday. Data from traffic police show as many as 220 major accidents took place during the holiday, killing 195 people and injuring hundreds of others. Thursday, April 17 - Pham Thi Huy, 14, living in Ba Nam, Ba To district, Quang Ngai province has died of skin disease after a 4-day treatment at Children's Hospital No.2 in Ho Chi Minh City, a source from Quang Ngai provincial Department of Health said. The female victim was first-of-its-kind patient in Ba Nam commune, Ba To district, the source said. Earlier, Huy was brought to Ba To Health Station on April 8 with several symptoms of skin disease, however her health became worse few days later. Finally, she was carried to the Children Hospital No. 2 in Ho Chi Minh city and died at 9 am on Thursday, April 17. It is reported that since 2011, the skin disease has so far attacked 7 communes of two mountainous districts of Ba To and Son Ha, leaving 231 people infected and dozen dead tolls. The Ministry of Health in Vietnam has brought out a new method to treat the bizarre and mysterious skin disease that is affecting residents in the central province of Quang Ngai, along with issuing warnings of further complications. The new treatment method will replace the old plan that was issued in January 2012. From now on patients with mild inflictions can be treated by applying a cream containing corticoid and 2 per cent salicylic ointment all over their body, which will keep the skin moist and soft. However, patients that are more seriously affected must be taken to the general hospital in the province or a bigger hospital in the city. All doctors, irrespective of their division, must take part in diagnosing these patients. In case the patients suffer from kidney and liver failure, doctors must filter their blood and try and save lives. The Quy Hoa National Leprosy Dermatology Hospital in the central province of Binh Dinh has cured 12 patients suffering from an undiagnosed skin disease that causes ulcers on hands, feet, mouth, back and abdomen, said Dr. Nguyen Thanh Tan, director of the hospital on Sunday. Ten patients were discharged from the hospital and two of them will return home in a few days. Within the last four months, the hospital had received 12 patients, who were transferred from hospitals in the central province of Quang Ngai. Most of them were in poor health and suffering from skin ulcers on their hands, feet, mouth, back and abdomen as well as liver and heart disorder. Doctors prescribed medicines to help their bodies eliminate contaminants, as well as doses of vitamin B, Zn supplements and suitable ointments.
