Early this morning, as I lay inside listening to the sound of the irrigation wheels rolling in the field, I felt very excited. The herbalist’s house is located right in the middle of a field, enwrapped by the light greenness of the rice plants. This year the upper source of the river has somehow been destroyed by the enemy so water isn’t coming down as it should. So farmers here have to wake up early and work the irrigation wheels. The field has been weeded, but faces a shortage of water. Another disaster is pests which are devouring the plants, so the farmers have to react quickly and spray pesticide on moonlit nights. Cannons from the nearby sea and fortifications bombard the hamlet and the field day and night.
