Fire leaves one dead, four injured in northern Vietnam
A fire erupted at a lumber warehouse of a household in Hiep Hoa District in the northern province of Bac Giang early on Friday morning, killing one and injuring four people. The lumber warehouse, whose owner is Vu Van C., 46, is located in Dong Dao Hamlet in Hop Thinh Commune, a leader of the commune told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper. When the fire broke out, C.’s family, including C., his wife and three children, were sleeping. After discovering the fire, firefighters and locals quickly approached the scene for rescue operations. Despite being hospitalized, 15-year-old Vu Duc D., a son of C., suffocated to death the same day. Other members of this family were injured and are receiving treatment at a nearby hospital. MIC to regulate OTT communication in Vietnam
The MIC called for a level playing field for domestic and foreign companies. Vietnam's Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) is seeking Government approval for a proposal to regulate over-the-top (OTT) interpersonal communication, which would bring popular messaging apps such as Zalo, Viber, and Telegram under the Telecommunications Law. The ministry believes that over-the-top service platforms such as Zalo, Viber, Telegram, and WhatsApp are replacing mobile phone services. However, there are currently no legal provisions governing these platforms, and there is no way to protect users and information security, the MIC stressed.
