5G: an opportunity to develop the ICT industry

Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung said that 5G is not just an opportunity to improve connection services and change Vietnam's telecommunications rankings, but also an opportunity to develop the country's ICT industry. VietNamNet would like to introduce the full text of the speech by Minister Hung at the conference on Vietnam’s reform and innovation in November 2018: Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung speaks at a conference on Vietnam’s reform and innovation. In 1990, the world witnessed the rise of 2G technology. Only three years later, in 1993, Vietnam launched the 2G mobile phone network. In 2000, 3G technology appeared in the world, but it was only in 2010, 10 years later, that all of the three largest carriers in Vietnam opened their 3G mobile phone networks. And when 4G came out, the story was almost the same. Until 2018, eight years after the world saw the appearance of 4G technology, we did not grant new frequencies to make 4G - the 4G network that carriers opened in 2017 due to the accumulation of 3G frequency. And what was the result? Thanks to the early adoption of 2G technology and the promotion of competition, Vietnam's mobile networks used to be in the top 50 in the world. But when it switched to 3G and 4G technology, because of lagging behind in terms of technology and the lack of new competitive factors, Vietnam's telecommunications ranked 108th. For example, in terms of broadband mobile subscribers, in 2017 the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) ranked Vietnam 115th out of 193 countries and territories, which meant that Vietnam was below the world average. The 5G technology is coming, and this is an opportunity for Vietnam to change our rankings. To change rankings, we must go first. Not being first on a national scale, we can be first in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. The Ministry of Information and Communications advocates providing 5G frequencies for testing from …

Vietnam among fastest growing national brand values globally

Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai, who also serves as the vice chairman of the Vietnam National Brand Council, outlined these statistics when opening the Vietnam National Brand Week 2021, an event which is scheduled to run from April 19 to April 24. The nation can be considered a bright spot thanks to its remarkable increase in national brand value, coupled with achievements in socio-economic development. The country has been able to affirm its prestige whilst increasing its position in the international arena, thereby demonstrating its initiative and stature in terms of international integration. As a result, the Vietnamese national brand value has moved by nine places to 33rd in the top 100 most valuable national brands globally, Deputy Minister Hai said. Furthermore, the nation is also the only country in ASEAN to have been upgraded in the Global Soft Power Index from 50/60 to 47/105 in terms of ranked countries, according to the Global Soft Power Index Report 2021. The past few years as seen the national reputation increase, largely due to the Government's quick response and sound policies, especially for its support of local businesses as they build and promote brands both at home and abroad. Boxers seek golds at Hanoi’s SEA Games

Former boxing champion Truong Dinh Hoang and his young teammate Vuong Thi Vy have set their sights on SEA Games gold medals. Vuong Thi Vy (right) is one of Vietnam's top boxers. She will seek her first SEA Games title in Hanoi later this year. Photo vothuat.vn Hoang, who triumphed at the men’s 75kg category in the 2015 Games, will fight in the 81kg class this year, while Vy is expecting to take her first gold at the regional event slated to be held in Hanoi this winter. Hoang was tipped to win the men’s 81kg tournament in the Philippines Games two years ago and easily advanced to the final, besting the host nation's John Marvin Nobel on his way there. However, he unexpectedly lost to Thongkrathok Anavat of Thailand on points. His defeat was attributed to a mistake as he was confused between the rules of the World Boxing Association for professional athletes and the International Boxing Association (AIBA) for the amateurs, with the latter applied at the SEA Games. AIBA does not support a defensive style in boxing but encourages fighters to go on the attack. Although Hoang performed well throughout the fight, he lost points for hugging and clinching. The loss is the biggest regret of the first Vietnamese boxer to win belts of the World Boxing Association Asia and Asia East to date. While his teammates are training at the National Sports Training Centre No 2 in HCM City, Hoang is working with his own crew at the Saigon Sports Club. “At the club, I am working with three coaches following a strategic plan. The club managers also support me with the best nutrition regime and recovery after exercises,” said Hoang. He also said that the Saigon Sports Club provides him with plenty of quality sparring partners, both local and foreign, to help improve his abilities. In preparation for the event, Hoang last month defeated Scottish fighter Mathew Cook Donald in the 'Celebrity Fights: Chef Edition' in HCM City. He will have another bout as a final …
