Noi Bai airport overcome by summer travel hordes
An airport representative said the number of passengers has dramatically risen in recent days. The designed capacity of the domestic terminal is around 100,000 passengers a day, but that number had increased to 102,000 on June 24. The number of domestic passengers at the airport has increased by 40 percent compared to peak periods in the summer of 2019, before Covid-19 struck. "With the number of booked tickets, we expect passengers figures to reach 110,000 a day in early July," the representative said. The high number of passengers, along with the fact that more people are using personal vehicles to reach the airport instead of public transport, has overloaded the terminal’s parking lot. There are 555 parking spots, but even with measures to keep traffic flow steady, it still cannot handle the sheer numbers. As such, the airport has encouraged passengers to use public transport instead of personal vehicles to travel to and from the terminal. If they choose to use a personal … [Read more...] about Noi Bai airport overcome by summer travel hordes
S.Korean office workers hit convenience stores as ‘lunch-flation’ bites
SEOUL -- Office worker Park Mi-won had never bought her lunch from a convenience store, until her favourite lunch buffet recently raised prices by more than 10% to 9,000 won ($7) as South Korean inflation soared to a 14-year high. "After the price rise, I went to convenience stores instead, where I thought the prices were reasonable while food also tasted good," the 62-year-old said. "So now I go there two to three times a week." Global food prices surged 23% last month from a year before, according to an agricultural arm of the United Nations. The crisis in Ukraine has impacted supplies of grains from there and Russia, and caused energy and fertiliser prices to soar. Offering cheap instant noodles, sandwiches and "gimbap" (rice rolls) for under $5, convenience stores are gaining in popularity as salaried workers like Park seek ways to cut costs. EU trade deal offers opportunities to increase exports
A historic agreement The European Union (EU) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) started negotiations for a region-to-region free trade agreement in 2007. After negotiations were suspended in 2009, the EU decided to pursue bilateral trade agreements with the individual ASEAN member states. Negotiations between the EU and Vietnam on a free trade agreement were launched in 2010. Following the completion of technical discussions, talks were finalized in December 2015. In February 2016, the full text of the EVFTA was published. However, the official signing of the trade deal was delayed due to the pending judgment of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) on jurisdiction for the conclusion of the EU-Singapore Free Trade Agreement. To take the 2017 CJEU opinion into account, the original deal was split into the EVFTA and the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) in June 2018. Both agreements were signed on June 30, 2019 in Hanoi. The European … [Read more...] about EU trade deal offers opportunities to increase exports
