Hanoi student bags gold medal at Int’l Math-Science Olympiad

The Hanoitimes - The International Mathematics and Science Olympiad is an annual competition for students under the age of 13 worldwide to promote their interest in mathematics and science. Hanoi students bagged two gold medals at the 17th International Mathematics and Science Olympiad (IMSO 2021), the Hanoi’s Department of Education and Training announced at the closing ceremony in Hanoi on January 24. Photo: Trung Kien Nguyen Tung Lam from Giang Vo Secondary School in Hanoi and Ha Manh Hung from Hanoi-Amsterdam High School were named at the closing ceremony after winning a gold medal each in mathematics. Vietnamese students won ten silver and eight bronze medals in both mathematics and science. All the medal winners, 20 out of 24 contestants, were secondary school students in Hanoi. The 17th IMSO was hosted online by Indonesia between January 21 and 24. Participants ftook the tests in their own countries within a specific time frame due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The contest was broadcast live. In Hanoi, the Giang Vo Secondary School was chosen as the venue for the competition. The 16th IMSO was hosted in Hanoi for the first time and the home team won 15 gold, 14 silver and seven bronze medals. The event is an annual competition for students under the age of 13 worldwide to promote their interest in mathematics and science. Besides, the IMSO aims to create an academic environment for students, encourage renovation and development in researching and studying and create cooperative networks in teaching-learning of mathematics and science among world educational organizations. Vietnam airlines to relaunch int’l flights from September 18

Vietnam’s airlines resume international flights today after months of the suspension to avoid Covid-19 spread. Vietnam airlines relaunch int'l flights from September 18. Photo: Vietjet Air Vietjet Air will resume regular flights to Japan, South Korea and Taiwan (China)  from September 29 with the frequency of one service per week for the routes of Ho Chi Minh City - Tokyo (Narita, Japan), Ho Chi Minh City - Seoul (Incheon, South Korea), Hanoi - Taipei (Taoyuan, Taiwan). Air passengers before boarding are required to have certificate of their negative status for Covid-19 issued within three days before the departure and comply with the safety screening measures of the host country. From September 18, Vietnam Airlines will relaunch its first regular international flights in months by conducting one-way flights from Vietnam to Japan. Flights from Hanoi to Narita Airport (Tokyo) depart at 11:45am on September 18, September 25, and September 30; from Ho Chi Minh City to Narita, at 0:00 on September 30 are by Boeing 787 wide-body aircraft. Air service to South Korea has also been resumed with one flight per week to Seoul. So far, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has only authorized air carriers to fly passengers out of the country. All returning flights will be empty with only cargo. For routes to Taiwan and Guangzhou (China), Vietnam Airlines is waiting for instructions from the airline authorities to make specific flight plans. Earlier, local authorities decided to reopen four international routes to/from Tokyo (Japan), Seoul (South Korea), Guangzhou (China) and Taipei (Taiwan, China), from September 15 and from September 22, flights to Phnom Penh (Cambodia) and Vientiane (Laos) will resume with a maximum frequency of two flights per week for Vietnamese airlines and their partners per route. Hanoi high-school students win eight medals at Int’l Olympiad of Metropolises

The Hanoitimes - The competition this year was held online due to Covid-19. Eight Vietnamese students from Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted have brought home five gold, one silver, and two bronze medals at the fifth International Olympiad of Metropolises (IOM). Hanoi high-school students win eight medals at the International Olympiad of Metropolises The competition, organized by the Mayor of Moscow, was held on December 16-22 online due to impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. Gold medals went to Nguyen Hoang Nam and Tran Quang Vinh in Physics, Nguyen Duy Anh and Nguyen Le Thao Anh in Chemistry, and Do Bach Khoa in Mathematics. Besides, Nguyen Duc Anh won the silver medal in Mathematics, while Nguyen Gia Bao and Nguyen Anh Quan won two bronze medals in Informatics. Especially, the team from Vietnam won the silver cup and ranks in top five best cities in the category of blitz-contest. Last year, Vietnam achieved impressive results in their first-time participation in the fourth IOM, bagging three golds, three silvers, and two bronzes. The IOM is an international team contest, which is held in Moscow annually at the initiative of the Mayor of Russia’s capital city. Students who participate in the contest are 14-18 year old dwellers of the world’s largest metropolises. A team of eight participants represents each city. They are to show their knowledge of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Informatics. The competition consists of a blitz-contest and two main rounds. First held in 2016, after four years, the competition has been extended with contestants of 45 cities from 32 countries and territories such as Helsinki, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Berlin, Dresden, Frankfurt, Boston, New York, Beijing, Hanoi, among others. …
