Hanoi (VNA) – The US’s experience in environmental management and air quality control in Vietnam were touched upon at a seminar in Hanoi on January 25. The event, themed “Solving the air quality crisis: from the US to Vietnam,” was jointly held by the US Agency for International Development (USAID), the environmental protection agency under the Hanoi Department of Natural Resources and Environment, and Live & Learn Centre. Dr. Le Bich Thuy from the Hanoi University of Science and Technology pointed out the harmful impact of air pollution on human health and life, and called for joint efforts to find suitable measures to tackle the problem. Thalassemia children in need of help to survive
7-year-old Ngan Thai Su is already a regular patient at Nghe An Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusion. He was admitted to the hospital since he was three months old. He has to go to the hospital at least once a month for blood transfusion. Each time he has to stay in the hospital for 10-12 days. Whenever Su went to hospital, his cousin, Ngan Thi May Ly, also accompanied him. Ly and her brother have also been treated for thalassemia. "All of them have this genetic disease. Both Su and Ly's fathers who are brothers should also have this disease but they refused to be tested or go to the hospital," said nurse Phan Thi Ai. Su's father said if he went to the hospital, there would be no one left at his house to work and they would fall deeper into debt. Vietnamese confident about congress’s success, Party leadership
Hanoi (VNA) - People around Vietnam interviewed by the Vietnam News Agency are sharing a belief that the 13th National Party Congress, being held from January 25 to February 2, will be a success and set out orientations for Vietnam to develop sustainably. Hoang Ngoc, a resident in Tan Lap village in northern Tuyen Quang province’s Tan Trao district, hoped the congress will select capable leaders who are dedicated to the country and the people, to unify and guide them in building a democratic and prosperous country, and a fair and civilised society in line with the goals set by the Party.
