HCM City (VNS/VNA) - Advances in treatment at hospitals nationwide have helped save more and more premature infants who are at high risk of mortality. This improvement is in line with the United Nations' fourth Millennium Development Goal to reduce child mortality rates. “Preterm birth complications are the leading cause of death among children under 5 years of age, responsible for approximately 1 million deaths in 2015. Three-quarters of these deaths could be prevented with current, cost-effective interventions,” the World Health Organisation (WHO) said. Many hospitals in Vietnam have improved their treatments for low birth-weight babies. Hung Vuong Hospital in HCM City, for instance, has been able to save thousands of premature infants each year. Doctors warn of stroke risks for children
HCM City (VNS/VNA) – News that a three-year-old boy suffered a stroke recently shocked parents across Vietnam. Earlier this month, HCM City’s Children's Hospital reported a three-year-old child faced a month of hospitalisation due to a haemorrhagic stroke. The boy living in Vinh Long Province was playing with his friends then suddenly fell to the floor, had convulsions and lost consciousness. He was transferred to the Children's Hospital where tests showed signs of bleeding in the head. The boy had digital subtraction angiography (DSA) of his cerebral vessels to find the cause of the stroke. The result of the cerebral haemorrhage was that the boy had a cerebral aneurysm sac. Cerebral aneurysm is a common disease and one of the leading causes of death in the elderly, said Huynh Huu Danh, one of the doctors of the surgical department who treated the boy.
