Airfares surge as domestic and int’l travel rebounds, fuel prices skyrocket
As more Vietnamese are seeking air travel services this summer, air ticket prices have increased as airlines are grappling with surging fuel costs and staffing challenges. Prices for flight tickets on many domestic routes operated by Vietnam’s five major carriers went up 20-40 percent for the last week of June compared to two months ago, according to an analysis by Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper. Airfares for international flights to and from Vietnam also soared 20-35 percent compared to pre-pandemic rates, according to a representative of Transportation Services Company (Worldtrans), a Vietnamese air charter provider. Airlines suffer losses due to rising fuel prices
Skyrocketing jet fuel prices have pushed airlines into difficulties as fuel costs accounted for 40-50 per cent of operating costs. — VNA/VNS Photo Vietnamese airlines are suffering losses amounting to hundreds of billions of dong each month due to a surge in fuel prices, according to the director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Viet Nam (CAAV) Dinh Viet Thang. At a conference of the transport ministry reviewing its work in the first half of the year earlier this week, Thang said that fuel costs accounted for 40-50 per cent of operation costs, and revenue increases were insufficient to compensate for high fuel prices. He said domestic aviation transport had recovered with higher growth than in the pre-pandemic period. Ha Long Bay entry tickets return to pre-pandemic rates
Entry tickets to the UNESCO World Heritage site Ha Long Bay will return to their former rates set before the Covid-19 pandemic from July 1. Tourist boats on Ha Long Bay The northern province of Quang Ninh offered half-priced entry tickets to Ha Long Bay and other tourist sites in the area during the first half of 2022 in an attempt to promote tourism activities after the Covid-19 pandemic. As the promotion period ends on June 30, tickets for daily tours to Ha Long Bay will cost between VND200,000- 250,000 per visitor from July 1. Visitors who stay overnight on the bay will pay between VND 500,000-750,000 each. Ha Long Bay has witnessed a recovery in tourist numbers after the Covid-19 pandemic. Indian tourists keen on Vietnam trip as direct routes increase
The search volume for direct flights to Vietnam from India in early April grew by 400 percent year-on-year and over 3,000 percent in late May, according to data from Google's Destination Insights. The frequency of searches for accommodation from Indian tourists by mid-June tripled compared to early April. Vietnamese carriers are racing to launch more direct flights connecting tourist hotspots with Indian cities, with India being one of Vietnam's growing tourism markets before the pandemic. Vietjet Air earlier this month announced direct flights from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City to India's commercial hub, Mumbai. Vietnam Airlines last week launched direct services between Hanoi, HCMC and New Delhi, becoming the second Vietnamese carrier to fly to India. Vietnam Airlines plans to restore its entire flight network by the end of 2023
In the first six months of 2022, Vietnam Airlines has resumed flights to 14 countries and territories, including the UK, France, Germany, Australia, the US, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Laos, Cambodia, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. Lately, the airline has opened a new route to India and is preparing the necessary conditions to immediately reopen flights to China, Myanmar, and Russia when the conditions permit. The national carrier is expected to resume flights to Indonesia in July and key international routes to Japan, Korea, and Australia in November at the same flight frequency as in 2019. 15 airlines to operate more intl’ flights to, from Vietnam’s Da Nang
Fifteen airlines are expected to operate international flights connecting numerous destinations with Da Nang from now until the end of the year, promising ample opportunities for the promotion and development of local tourism. These airlines will operate international routes from such countries as South Korea, Thailand, Singapore, Japan, and Malaysia, among others, to Da Nang with a total frequency of up to 90 flights per week, Ho Ky Minh, vice-chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, said on Monday.
