A Vietnamese beauty contest winner is expected to present a golden lotus as a gift to the Miss Universe 2015 pageant in the U.S. Pham Huong, who was crowned Miss Universe Vietnam in early October, will take part in the pageant, to be held from December 2 to 20. At a press conference on Monday, Huong announced that she will bring a golden lotus to the beauty contest. The artwork, plated with 24K, 99 percent pure gold, is considered the country’s national flower which depicts the strong will and spiritual values of the Vietnamese people. City student excels at English-speaking contest in U.K. By Kieu Giang in HCMC Trinh Hoang Nam, 16, from HCMC-based Asian International School was named runner-up at the Cambridge English Best Young Speaker from Asia Competition held at Cambridge University in the U.K. Nam defeated contestants from China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Indonesia to win a scholarship for the Graduate Certificate in International Business offered by the University of Tasmania in Australia. Nam was also the youngest contestant among the nine finalists. “If you want to improve your English you should practice speaking English even at home to promote your self-confidence,” Nam said. His upcoming target is to achieve the CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English) by Cambridge ESOL.This year’s winner was Indian student Sruthi Vijayachandran, 25, who has a Masters degree in Public Relations. Addressing a two-day meeting in the capital on Thursday, Prime Minister Dung expressed his concerns about the present figure of 73 per cent of Vietnamese workers who had not attended any training courses whatsoever. He urged Party committees, administrations and localities to allocate sufficient funds to vocational education and consider developing this sector fully. The Prime Minister endorsed the target set by the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA) to raise the number of people attending vocational training courses to 40 per cent by 2010. The seven-year-old has been in the same position for so long, his muscles have begun to deteriorate. Hai is autistic and this is how the staff at the orphanage look after him. This is what Tony Louw, an early intervention therapist who works with autistic children, discovered when he made a tour of central Viet Nam in 2008. "The staff had almost nothing in the way of facilities and there was a child-staff ratio of 10 to one," he says. "This is mostly because they don't have enough money, but a lot needs to be done in terms of increasing awareness of autism and the alternatives to medication."
