In August, Vietnam imported more than 472,283 tonnes of fertiliser worth 159 million USD, up 54% over July in volume and 85% in value. This was the highest import volume since July 2021. The fertiliser prices reached 338 USD a tonne last month, up 19% on-month, but down 26% year-on-year. Ending August, fertiliser imports rose 13% to 2.5 million tonnes, but the import value fell 19% year-on-year to 833 million USD. During the period, the average price of imported fertiliser was estimated at 347 USD per tonne, a 25% decrease from last year. Accordingly, the Indonesia Safeguards Committee (KPPI) has decided to apply the extension of self-defence taxes globally from September 5, 2023 to September 4, 2026. Evaporators or condensers with HS code 8418.99.10, part of the refrigerators, freezers or other refrigeration/freezing equipment, will be subject to a self-defence tax rate of 12.5% in the first year from September 5 – September 4, 2024, and 11% in the second year from September 5, 2024 to September 4, 2025, and 9.5% in the third year from September 5, 2025 to September 4, 2026. Apple deems Vietnam an important market and production hub
On September 21 in New York, the US, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with top executives from global giants, including Apple. At the meeting, Nick Ammann, Apple vice president of global policy, said, "Vietnam is a very important market and production area for Apple. Latin America among most important markets for Vietnam: official
Over the past years, trade and investment relations between Vietnam and Latin America have continually developed and expanded, said Ta Hoang Linh, Director of the MoIT’s European - American Market Department, at the event, held in Ho Chi Minh City from September 13 to 15. He cited statistics showing that bilateral trade doubled to 23 billion USD in 2022 from 14.2 billion USD in 2018. Vietnam emphasises importance of UNCLOS in marine environmental protection

Presenting Vietnam’s views on the request for advisory opinion of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea ( ITLOS ) on states' obligations to respond to climate change, Hanh noted that the tribunal has the authority to give advice regarding greenhouse gas emissions that cause marine pollution.
