(Photo courtesy of the firm) The worst sufferers were the electronics, wood, textiles, and footwear industries. According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT), China was an important market for the export and import activities of Vietnam as it provides the majority of input materials for Vietnam's production, especially electronic components, machinery parts, fabrics and chemicals. MoIT said from 50 to 55 percent of raw materials and accessories for the textile, garment, and footwear industries originated from China. The country was currently implementing the "Zero Covid" strategy, which forced many factories there temporarily stop production to fight the pandemic. The import-export activities in the neighboring country were affected a lot by the shortage of containers at ports. VN-Index strengthens by more than 15 points, backed by banking stocks

June 28, 2022 by www.sggpnews.org.vn

The benchmark started the morning trading session not so smoothly when the demand still hesitated, while the holders were ready to push sell orders when they saw that stocks reached their expected price levels. The cautiousness of both sides made the VN-Index go down slightly in the ATO session. The market continuously shook in the morning trading session when both the buyers and sellers failed to show their superior on the electric board. The market only improved in the afternoon trading session when buy orders above the reference price unexpectedly poured into the group of banking stocks. The green color from the most important stock group in the market was the driving force, helping change the color of the remaining large-cap stocks in the VN30 basket. At the end of the trading session, the VN-Index gained by 15.28 points, or 1.27 percent, to 1,218.1 points. Of the index, 326 stocks emerged, 53 remained unchanged, and 136 sank. Notably, the list of stocks that climbed today … [Read more...] about VN-Index strengthens by more than 15 points, backed by banking stocks

June 28, 2022 by www.sggpnews.org.vn

Talking to the press, he said there are three main areas for such cooperation, namely digitalisation, simplification of rules and procedures to strengthen the business environment; supporting equality, gender equality and equality for minority groups; and legislation and regulation around the green economy. He stressed that the strategic partnership between the UK and Vietnam is solid but there is plenty of room for it to expand. Hue’s visit, the second of a senior Vietnamese leader to the UK within the past year, will help to push forward the cooperation between the two parliaments and governments, he said. "The relationship between the UK and Vietnam is built on people-to-people links. So I think this visit is a good symbol that we are open for business again in both directions,” said Ward. Businesses can travel, invest and develop export and import, while students from Vietnam can come to the UK and vice versa, he added. “We hope that we will soon see the return to the … [Read more...] about Top legislator’s visit a great opportunity for boosting Vietnam-UK ties

Mega-deltas creating food baskets severely impacted by climate change

June 28, 2022 by www.sggpnews.org.vn

Farmers in the Mekong Delta are under pressure due to climate change. (Photo: SGGP) Speaking at the conference, Mr. Le Thanh Tung, Deputy Director of the Department of Crop Production, said that mega-deltas in Asia, including the Mekong Delta, play an important role in providing food for millions of people in the region. However, the food systems in these deltas are being severely impacted by climate change, including floods, salinity intrusion, water shortages, and increasingly severe climate conditions. It negatively impacts economic growth, food security, and nutrition, besides challenges from urbanization and migration, and creates new poverty traps and hotspots of hunger. Dr. Ole Sander, Representative of the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) in Vietnam, emphasized the role of Asian mega deltas as food baskets for countries in the region. The main goal of the Asian mega-deltas initiative is to build these deltas capable of sustaining socio-ecological integrity, … [Read more...] about Mega-deltas creating food baskets severely impacted by climate change
