Military units conduct combat readiness shifting exercises

* The Engineering Corps has just conducted practice of shifting its affiliated units to various combat readiness levels, aiming to make all units meet task requirements in the current context. Reportedly, all participating units completed their assigned mission as planned with absolute safety during the practice. * Naval Region 5 completed its combat readiness shifting exercise on March 5. Participating units flexibly and effectively handled numerous situations in the exercise, collaborated smoothly to ensure logistical and technical supplies, gained experience to improve combat readiness, and raised the commanding capabilities of their commanders. * Meanwhile, the exercises of Division 312 of Army Corps 1 and Division 363 of the Air Defense and Air Force Service consisted of various stages such as shifting the combat readiness from a regular level to higher levels, evacuating forces to safer places, and dealing with unexpected issues. Activities nationwide celebrate 70 years of patriotic emulation appeal

* A meeting, held by authorities of Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC), saw the presence of former Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, Permanent Deputy-Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh, and Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan. In response to the appeal, over the past years, local authorities, armed forces and people have made efforts in emulation work to gain considerable achievements in the struggle for national liberation and during the national construction and development cause. A number of the city’s emulation models has been replicated in other localities nationwide. At the event, Permanent Deputy-PM Truong Hoa Binh handed over the "Emulation" Flag of the Government to 12 groups while the city granted certificates of merit to other 278 groups and individuals with outstanding task performance records in the 2015-2018 period. * Addressing a ceremony in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai, Vice-State President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh hailed locals for their efforts in responding to patriotic emulation. In the coming times, she asked the province to further develop the socio-economy, pay due attention to supporting local ethnic minority groups and needy people in rural and mountainous areas, reduce poverty in an inclusive and sustainable manner, enhance environmental protection, maintain defense-security and social order and multiply good examples in villages and residential quarters. * The provinces of Long An and Ha Tinh have also held similar meetings to celebrate the 70th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh’s call for patriotic emulation. * On June 9, the Ministry of Education and Training, in association with the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Information and Education, the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and HCMC-based Nguyen Tat Thanh University, held the final round of the contest “Youths learn and follow President Ho Chi Minh’s thought and moral example”. * Globally, as of 9:42am CET, 6 March 2021, there have been 115.478.709 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 2.568.720 deaths, reported to WHO. As of 6 March 2021, a total of 249.160.837 vaccine doses have been administered. * The Chinese mainland reported no new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases on Friday, the National Health Commission said Saturday. The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases on the mainland reached 89,962 by Friday, including 173 patients still receiving treatment, including one in severe condition. * Japan extended a state of emergency in the Tokyo area by two weeks to try to combat COVID-19, prompting a "heartfelt apology" by Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide. * Brazil on Friday registered more than 1,600 COVID-19 deaths for the fourth day in a row, reporting 1,800 new deaths and 75,495 new cases in the past 24 hours. Brazil has so far reported a total of 10,869,227 cases with 262,770 deaths, according to official data. * Russia on Saturday reported 11,022 new COVID-19 cases, including 1,820 in Moscow, taking the national case tally to 4,312,181 since the pandemic began. The government's coronavirus taskforce said that 441 people had died in the last 24 hours, bringing the Russian death toll to 88,726. * US President Joe Biden said the latest job report shows job gains are too slow and his COVID-19 relief bill is urgently needed to boost the economy. * The European Union will urge the United States to permit the export of millions of doses of AstraZeneca's COVID-19 vaccine to Europe, underlining Brussels' scramble to bridge supply shortfalls, the Financial Times reported on Saturday. * Italy said on Friday it would further tighten coronavirus restrictions in three of its 20 regions, while France reported the number of people in intensive care with the disease reached its highest level so far this year. * Switzerland unveiled a CHF1 billion (US$1.08 billion) plan on Friday to offer free coronavirus tests for its entire …
