Two children from Nghe An Province, north-central Vietnam have died following suspected dog bites. Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital confirmed on Wednesday it had recently received two young patients in critical conditions. Doctors believed that the patients had been bitten by dogs and were infected with rabies. In the first case, three-year-old L.B.T. showed symptoms, such as vomiting and convulsions, before his family took him to a district hospital for examination. T. was then transferred to Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital for emergency treatment, with symptoms including respiratory failure, prolonged convulsions, profuse sputum secretion, and dread of wind and water. Family members said T. often played with dogs and cats, and that a dog raised by the family recently died of unknown causes. Doctors diagnosed T. with rabies. Cho Ray Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City performs over 1,100 organ transplants in three decades
Cho Ray Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City has carried out more than 1,100 organ transplants over the past 30 years, with a high success rate equivalent to the figures recorded in other countries, said hospital director Nguyen Tri Thuc at its 30th kidneyversary on Thursday morning. The event gathered representatives of Vietnam’s Ministry of Health, the municipal government, and leading experts on organ transplantation in the country. Organ transplants record high success rates Given the support of experts at home and abroad, the hospital managed to perform a kidney transplant in its first two cases on December 28 and 29, 1992, just a few days after the country’s first organ transplant was done, Thuc recalled. Vietnam ranks 65th out of 137 countries and territories in the 2020-2022 period as per the World Happiness Report 2023. Vietnam targets end of malaria by 2030
Viet Nam will provide training to medical staff and apply new techniques in the prevention, detection, and treatment of malaria. Vietnam's Ministry of Health (MoH) and PATH, a US-based nonprofit health organization, convened a conference this week to call for financial and human resources to prevent and control malaria, with the goal of successfully eliminating the mosquito-borne disease from the country by 2030. The goal is in line with the 2023 Plan for Malaria, Parasites and Insect Control and Prevention, as Vietnam has recently achieved remarkable results in preventing and controlling the dangerous tropical disease. The National Institute of Malariology, Parasitology and Entomology (NIMPE) reported that over the past 30 years, malaria deaths in Vietnam have dropped from over 4,600 to only one death last year, and no malaria epidemic. Viet Duc Hospital performs 100th multi-organ transplant from brain-dead donor
“This is the 100th multi-organ transplant from a brain-dead donor at Vietnam Duc University Hospital, also the largest amount of tissue and organs that have been donated,” said he. “We would like to express our deep gratitude to the patients who received organs, from the doctors, the medical staff doing the organ donation work to the families of those who donated their organs for life.
