Vn-Index set for steady growth in 2023

February 6, 2023 by hanoitimes.vn

The Government’s active stance to address macro challenges would fuel the stock market development in 2023. The benchmark Vn-Index is forecast to expand by 15% at the end of 2023 to hit 1,160 following a turbulent year for the stock market, according to SSI Securities Corporation (SSI). Investor at a securities company in Hanoi. Photo: Pham Hung The Vn-Index from its peak of 1,530 in early 2022 plummeted to a low of 874 in mid-November, a downturn which experts attributed to major events, such as the Russia-Ukraine conflict, arrests of business executives for market manipulation, and the Government’s tightening credit into high-risk fields. As of late 2022, however, the market’s price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio was considered quite attractive with an estimated 9.2x, 35% lower than the average rate of 14.16x during the 2009-2022 period. SSI’s latest report also pointed out another positive factor in the expectation of a more stable value of the Vietnamese Dong … [Read more...] about Vn-Index set for steady growth in 2023

February 7, 2023 by e.vnexpress.net

The Vietnamese company, a subsidiary of conglomerate Vingroup JSC (VIC.HM), has been moving to expand in the United States, where it hopes to compete with existing automakers. A VinFast spokesperson said headcount would not shrink in Vietnam where most of the company's staff, including its factory and engineering operations, are located. It was not immediately clear how many jobs would be affected by the U.S. restructuring. VinFast said it had hired about 150 people in the United States, many in sales, support and distribution roles as part of a model that bypasses traditional dealerships. The company, which started operations in 2019, said last week that it would delay its first batch of deliveries to the United States to the second half of February. In late January, VinFast said it was merging its U.S. and Canadian operations into a single business unit. It did not announce any job cuts at the time. February 6, 2023 by vir.com.vn

Despite the festive occasion, the consumption of non-essential goods in the first month of 2023 remained stagnant, with analysts believing the situation will linger throughout at least the first half this year. Despite the unfavourable environment, Mobile World Group (MWG) – the largest consumer electronics retailer in Vietnam – still aims to post positive revenue and net-profit growth in 2023, as well as two-digit growth compared to average level during the 2020-2022 period. To achieve this goal, the company envisages opening new stores on a selective basis and striving for new shops to generate profit for the patent company within three months after launching. Simultaneously, all shops in the system will focus on augmenting the sales revenue at existing outlets and controlling their operating costs to boost profits. Besides this, MWG will optimise its cash flow and slash financial expenses through improved inventory management. Specifically, the group aims to … [Read more...] about Retailers flexibly steering through turbulent times

Chinese visitors to Vietnam to reach 3-4.5 million in 2023: HSBC

February 6, 2023 by tuoitrenews.vn

HSBC predicted in its latest report on Vietnam’s economy that the Southeast Asian country will see a recovery of the number of Chinese visitors by 50-80 percent in 2023 compared to the pre-pandemic volume. In other words, Vietnam is set to welcome three to 4.5 million Chinese tourists this year. The increasing return of Chinese tourists following China’s border reopening on January 8 will notably contribute to the growth of Vietnam’s tourism, which can be a key sector for the latter in 2023, offsetting the decline in trading and manufacturing, according to HSBC experts. In a broader view, the experts believe that the Vietnamese economy will witness a shift from goods to services, which they consider a driver for economic stability despite the trade slowdown. Red represents Chinese tourists as a percentage of the total number of international visitors to countries in Southeast Asia. After Vietnam resumed inbound and outbound tourism in March 2022, its domestic … [Read more...] about Chinese visitors to Vietnam to reach 3-4.5 million in 2023: HSBC

Google unveils ChatGPT rival Bard, AI search plans in battle with Microsoft

February 7, 2023 by www.asiaone.com

Google owner Alphabet Inc on Monday (Feb 6) said it will launch a chatbot service and more artificial intelligence for its search engine as well as developers, an answer to Microsoft Corp in their rivalry to lead a new wave of computing. Microsoft, meanwhile, said it planned its own AI reveal for Tuesday. The cascade of news reflects how Silicon Valley is anticipating massive change from so-called generative AI, technology that can create prose or other content on command and free up white-collar workers' time. The ascent of ChatGPT, a chatbot from Microsoft-backed OpenAI that could disrupt how consumers search for information, has been one of the biggest challenges to Google in recent memory. In a blog post, Alphabet Chief Executive Sundar Pichai said his company is opening a conversational AI service called Bard to test users for feedback, followed by a public release in the coming weeks. He also said Google plans to add AI features to its search engine that synthesise … [Read more...] about Google unveils ChatGPT rival Bard, AI search plans in battle with Microsoft
