Foreign investors poured nearly US$1.7 billion into Vietnam as of January 20. In the first month of 2023, newly-registered capital is estimated to have increased 3.1 times over the same period last year, showing that foreign investors still maintain confidence in Vietnam's investment environment. In addition, 204 transactions of share purchases by foreign investors were worth $174 million, representing a year-on-year decline of 60.7%. Jiří Pos, Chairman of the Board of Prague Airport said that the airport is considering the launch of flights from Prague to Vietnam, by partnering with either Vietnam Airlines or Bamboo Airways. There could also be another round of talks with Qatar Airlines in February for a route to Doha, he added. The airport is negotiating the renewal of the route to Newark with United Airlines. Discussions are also taking place with American Airlines about restoring the route to Philadelphia. Pos said that the airport is talking to some US partners about a direct service connecting Prague and Chicago, adding that the airport also hopes to resume direct flights to Canada, specifically to Toronto and Montreal with potential partners being Air Canada or Air Transat. However, the ministry's proposal did not include a value-added tax (VAT) reduction of 2 per cent, which it said has been challenging and complicated to implement. In the MoF's latest proposal to the government, businesses, household businesses and individuals were to continue to enjoy a 30 per cent cut in land-use fees in 2023, on top of an extension on their tax duties. A Sunjin Vina Co plant in Ha Nam Province. — Photo danviet.vn South Korea-invested Sunjin Vina Co has received a licence from Hau Giang Industrial Zones (IZ) Management Board to develop a seafood feed plant in the province's Tan Phu Thanh Industrial Zone (IZ). The 2.6ha-plant, expected to cost US$23.6 million, will produce 126,000 tonnes of fish and shrimp feed products annually, the Vietnam Investment Review has reported. The plant's first phase is slated for completion in May 2024. Head of the board Tran Ngoc Hung described the plant's investment licence as a good start to the year for the province and the investor. He said his board would create all the most favourable conditions for the investor while coordinating with relevant departments to solve difficulties promptly, so that it could soon put the project into operation.
