This was one of the events to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Japan diplomatic relations and 30th anniversary of Japan’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) to Vietnam. VPBank last week was rumoured to be close to an agreement to sell 15 per cent of stakes to Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group, one of Japan’s largest financial companies. A wild elephant has ravaged fruit trees in the southern province of Binh Phuoc’s Dong Phu District. According to the forest management board in Dong Phu District, on March 19, the elephant appeared near the forest in Tan Loi Commune. A tree ruined by the elephant The animal travelled through a residential area which is home to around 61 households in Thach Mang Village, destroying 12 banana trees, one jackfruit tree and three papaw trees. It also broke into a local house, eating rice and salt. Local authorities have instructed locals to take measures to ensure safety in case the elephant returns. Based on the traces, the animal may head to Dong Nai Culture and Nature Reserve. Many local residents are worried that it could appear again. Ho Chi Minh City household raising 82 dogs fined for causing environmental pollution
A household in District 4, Ho Chi Minh City that breeds 82 dogs as pets in a 2.6m-wide house has been fined VND64 million (US$2,724) for causing environmental pollution. A representative of the People’s Committee of Ward 9 in District 4, where the family of Nguyen Thi My Thanh -- the owner of the dogs -- resides, confirmed the information to Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Tuesday. In particular, Thanh’s family was fined VND40 million ($1,698) for discharging wastewater which exceeds the criteria by over 10 times and VND24 million ($1,019) for releasing wastewater with a pH level above the permitted. The household was also asked to take measures to deal with the environmental pollution and pay measurement and sample analysis fees. The move comes amid concerns that this measure might undermine the competitive advantage of developing countries in attracting foreign investment through offering tax incentives. The global minimum tax was Pillar Two of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation Development ( OECD )’s base erosion and profit-shifting (BEPS) framework. Export turnover of Vietnamese dragon fruit is expected to top 1 billion USD in 2023./. Hanoi (VNA) – The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has announced that the country's total export value of dragon fruit so far this year topped 47 million USD, a fall of 48.7% compared to the same period las year. The fruit has been exported to more than 40 countries and territories with China, India, the US, Thailand and the Netherlands being the biggest import ers. However, in the first two months of 2023, its export saw a slump in some markets such as the Republic of Korea (RoK) and Japan with decreases of 25.9% and 35.4%, respectively year-on-year.
