Nguyen Thi Luyen, the 65-year-old owner of the home, said she met with local officials on Wednesday and agreed to move to a 300-square-meter lot, a size equal to her current house. "I found the location suitable. My family is tired of living in the middle of the street," Luyen said. Her family moved temporarily to a communal house on Thursday and will stay there while waiting for their new house to be built. Their current house will be demolished this week to serve the completion of the road project. Luyen’s was one of 151 families asked to relocate in 2021 to make way for a road that would connect the residential area with another larger street. The road now stretches 2.3 kilometers long and seven meters wide, but a section 14 meters long has been left uncompleted as Luyen’s house still stands in the way.
