A foreigner can have the right to buy and possess a house in Vietnam for a maximum possession time of 70 years, according to the Ministry of Construction's project. Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has just instructed the Ministry of Construction to prepare the necessary documents on the experimental project to permit foreigners to buy houses and possess land in Vietnam to submit the National Assembly's Standing Committee for opinions. If the project is approved, foreigners can buy and own houses instead of renting houses as at present. More foreign investment to follow the project According to the statement by the Ministry of Construction, Vietnamese laws now do not permit foreign individuals and organisations to buy houses in Vietnam. From the outside, Nguyen Manh Duc's stilt house has an ancient facade, but inside there's a a shocking, arty, contemporay atmosphere. The old-style house is used as a gallery of alternative modern art and stands out prominently beside the multi-storey blocks of Vinh Phuc District. Today is the "10+" celebration. As the title suggests, it's about marking the house's 10th year as a museum for alternative art. Over 20 well-known artists are attending the celebration. Rules seen clearer for Viet Kieu housing ownership By Dinh Dung - The Saigon Times Daily HCMC - Overseas Vietnamese or Viet Kieu will be offered favorable conditions for buying a property in their homeland in the coming time under new regulations in the Decree 71/2010/ND-CP, which will take effect on August 8. Accordingly, Viet Kieu can buy or receive an unlimited number of houses as gift and inheritance if they are of Vietnamese citizenship and their Vietnamese passports are valid. In case they are Vietnamese descendants and hold foreign passports, they must produce one of the documents certified by authorized organizations proving that they are Vietnamese.
