Hotel room rates stable on National Day holiday Dao Loan By Dao Loan - The Saigon Times Daily HCMC – This year’s National Day holiday lasted four consecutive days, but hotel room tariffs in seaside tourism destinations remained stable due to low occupancy. During the holiday from last Friday till on September 2, tourists flocked to seaside resort towns like Danang, Hoi An, Binh Thuan, Phu Quoc and Nha Trang. Danang City sought to attract visitors with many leisure activities and entertainments such as an international marathon tournament and a boat race in the Han River. There were approximately 90,000 tourist arrivals in the city, up 36.7% over the same period last year. Hanoi Times - A survey by Grant Thornton showed that hotel room rates in Hanoi are the highest in Vietnam, while the rates in Da Lat are the lowest in the country. Grant Thornton conducted a survey on hotel rooms in 2007, which showed that the hotel room rates increased by 37% over 2006. The survey was conducted at 37 3-5-star hotels with 5,200 rooms. Hanoi proves to be the most expensive destination in terms of average room rates, while Da Lat the cheapest. on average, every client who stays in Hanoi hotel rooms has to pay $82.78 more than in Da Lat. The hotel room occupancy rate has increased by 142% in the last four years. HCMCity is the city which had the highest occupancy rate, 79.32% in 2007. Phan Thiet saw the highest growth rate in hotel room occupancy rate, 29.4%. The Hotel Department under the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism says in a just-released report that local room rates at the beginning of this year were 20% to 30% higher than those in the region. However, as many local hotels have slashed hotel tariffs by 15% to 25% to cope with the decline in international arrivals, the gap has been narrowed down but is still higher than regional rivals' rates. The HCMC Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism said in the report that these hotels registered average occupancy of 55% and that their average room rate was US$109 per night, down nearly US$5 from a year ago.The city has 54 three to five-star hotels with nearly 8,000 rooms.
