Hanoi hosts meeting of ASEAN commission on women’s, children’s rights
Hanoi (VNA) – The 17th Meeting of the ASEAN Commission on the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Women and Children (ACWC) took place in Hanoi on October 20, gathering representatives from ten ASEAN nations and the ASEAN Secretariat. It was the ACWC’s second meeting in the year, following the 16th meeting in Jakarta, Indonesia in March. It was held by the Vietnamese Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs and the ASEAN Secretariat as part of the third ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Women (AMMW) and related meetings in Hanoi from October 18 – 25. The meeting discussed the follow-up from the 16th meeting and reviewed the implementation of projects of the ACWC Work Plan 2016 – 2020. Hanoi to host first dragon boat racing festival

The event is expected to draw 400 athletes from 27 teams of Hanoi’s districts, namely Hoang Mai, Bac Tu Liem, Chuong My, My Duc, Thanh Oai, and Ba Vi and Son Tay town, as well as Hai Duong, Hung Yen and Thai Nguyen provinces. They will compete in different men’s, women’s and mixed categories in the city’s West Lake. Indonesian martial art pencak silat gets UNESCO heritage status
Anwar bin Sholeh had something to cheer when he showed up at a Jakarta training centre to practice pencak silat -- the Indonesian martial art was added to UNESCO's prestigious heritage list.
