Bell ringing instead of fireworks display in Hanoi on lunar New Year Eve
Hanoi City Department of Culture and Sports has asked religious establishments, temples and pagodas to ring their bells on lunar New Year's Eve. On January 3rd, director of Hanoi City Department of Culture and Sports To Van Dong said the proposal was given after the city had cancelled its plan for fireworks shows for the upcoming Tet holiday. The city hopes that the sounds of the bells will create a meaningful moment. Mr. Dong said the bells across the city will "herald the new year for everyone." He reaffirmed that all fireworks displays, which used to be a mainstay of Vietnam's biggest holiday, will be replaced by other cultural events and free performances. On the New Year Eve, Hanoi will organize artistic performances at Ly Thai To flower garden, around Hoan Kiem Lake, and My Dinh Stadium. The Year of the Rooster will begin on January 28th. Hanoi to organise special art performances on the New Year Eve
The Hanoitimes - Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports said that numerous special art performances will be organised to celebrate New Year 2016. Vietnamese singers and artists and some famous international DJs will partipate in the stellar performances from December 31 to January 1 to welcome the New Year 2016.
