Photo hoasengroup.vn HÀ NỘI — The surge in prices of steel since the beginning of 2021 helped many steel producers record good performance in the first quarter. Rebar futures contracts, trading on the Shanghai Futures Exchange, increased sharply due to supply chain disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The most traded May rebar contract climbed 17.4 per cent this year and traded at 5,101 yuan per ton. The rebar price rose 51 per cent compared to April 2020. In its first quarter finance result, Hoa Sen Group (HSG) posted an increase of nearly 382 per cent year-on-year in net revenue to VNĐ9.1 trillion, leading to a rise of 215.8 per cent in profit after tax to VNĐ572 billion. HSG said that the gain was mainly driven by increases in net revenue and falls in financial expenses, dropping nearly 30 per cent in the first quarter. Hồ Chí Minh City Metal Corporation (HMC) also witnessed strong growth in business results during this period with its revenue rising 40.4 per cent over the same period of 2020 to over VNĐ1.1 trillion. The company's profit after tax gained over 10 times compared to last year to VNĐ64.7 billion, marking the highest quarterly profit since it was founded. In the financial report, HMCl said that the main reasons for the company's outstanding performance were gains in sales and higher steel price. The company will hold its annual general meeting on April 26. In a report prepared for the meeting, HMC set this year's target of VNĐ3.45 trillion in revenue, down 5% year-on-year, with profit after tax increasing 16 per cent to VNĐ44 billion. Another steel producer posting good results in the first quarter was Thủ Đức Steel JSC (TDS). The quarterly financial report showed that the company's net revenue rose 22.7 per cent year-on-year to VNĐ601.6 billion. Its profit after tax also posted a gain of …

Tôi yêu Kon Tum (I Love Kon Tum) was founded by 41-year-old Trần Văn Cao Sang and run out of the group's headquarters at a stall at 29 Nguyễn Trãi Street, Kon Tum City. Sang and his friends have organised many volunteer activities to help poor and disadvantaged children, including giving them free clothes, paying their school fees and searching for other donors. Sang said during a visit to the Kon Tum Province’s Child Care and Sponsor Centre 15 years ago, he and his friends were deeply saddened by the difficult circumstances the children suffered. "They lacked a lot both physically and mentally but they always smiled. The image of innocent children playing together touched our hearts," he said. In early 2006, 'I Love Kon Tum' was established to run community-oriented activities, especially helping children in remote and extremely difficult areas in Kon Tum Province. Sang was elected to be the head of the charity group. Firstly, Sang came up with the idea to buy white T-shirts and print the 'I Love Kon Tum' logo on them to sell and raise money. “At that time, white T-shirts with the 'I Love Kon Tum' logo were very popular among local residents, especially young people. Thousands of T-shirts were sold in a week,” he said. "All the money was spent on giving gifts to poor children in remote areas," Sang said. In addition, the group has raised funds by selling paintings and organising volunteer music nights. The group has gradually become more popular in the locality so local sponsors and some overseas Vietnameses have helped out. The group has four main charity drives each year, one for the Tết (Lunar New Year) holidays, one at the start of summer, one during the Mid-Autumn Festival and a …

This is Việt Nam’s first HP drugs zone for the production of cytotoxic/cytostatic oral solids. — Photo courtesy of the company Davipharm, a member of Adamed Group and manufacturer of generic drugs, has set up a high-potency drugs zone for the production of cytotoxic/cytostatic oral solids in Binh Duong, the first of its kind in Viet Nam. These are oncological drugs in hard-shell capsules, tablets and coated tablets. According to new regulations from the Ministry of Health and guidelines from the World Health Organization, European Medicines Agency and the Pharmaceutical Inspection Co-operation Scheme, the production of certain products containing hazardous ingredients must be done at separate facilities that meet certain criteria. Speaking at a ceremony held to announce the news in HCM City on April 16, Michal Wieczorek, Davipharm’s CEO, said the HP drug zone will provide high-quality oncological drugs to Vietnamese patients. “Currently eight out of 10 people in Viet Nam die from non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including cancers. This is also why Davipharm decided to be the first domestic drug manufacturer to become a partner of the Ministry of Health in the prevention, early detection and treatment of NCDs in Viet Nam.” Davipharm’s portfolio includes 28 high-potency drugs, including for the treatment of leukaemia, breast, pancreatic, colorectal, stomach, cervix, prostate, and lung cancers, and glioblastoma. The company has an annual capacity of 500 million units of HP drugs and 1.8 billion units of other drugs. In 2017 Adamed Pharma, a Polish pharmaceutical and biotechnology company acquired controlling stakes in Davipharm, one of the fastest-growing drug companies in Viet Nam.
