Coronavirus suspect case reported in Mekong Delta province

The man, 49, tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus at random at Thanh Vu Polyclinic in Bac Lieu city,. The patient lives in Soc Trang province, another Mekong Delta locality in southern Vietnam. On February 27 he travelled to Bac Lieu city together with six neighbours, seeking a job at a wind farm there. A farm employee took him to Thanh Vu Polyclinic for COVID-19 testing and it came to the man as a surprise that he has carried the virus. The source of infection is still unknown, said doctors. Local authorities immediately isolated the man and his neighbours, and quickly conducted field investigations to early detect and quarantine other suspect cases. The provincial Centre for Disease Control transferred the man’s sample to Ho Chi Minh City Pasteur Institute for confirmation. If the result is confirmed, Bac Lieu is the 14th locality that has reported the emergence of the virus in Vietnam. Other 13 coronavirus hit cities and provinces are Hai Duong, Quang Ninh, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Gia Lai, Binh Duong, Bac Ninh, Hai Phong, Dien Bien, Hung Yen, Hoa Binh, Bac Giang and Ha Giang. …

Vietnam to host audit of water management cooperation in Mekong River basin

That was announced at a launch ceremony held by SAV in Hanoi on December 22. The Vietnamese agency, as the Chair of the Asian Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI) for the 2018-2021 term, chaired the online launch meeting. Speaking at the meeting, Auditor General of Vietnam Ho Duc Phoc said that from the proposal of the SAV on initiating an audit of cooperation among ASOSAI’s SAI members in Southeast Asia, on the basis of consultation with related stakeholders, the participating SAIs agreed to choose the subject for the collaborative audit on water management in the Mekong River basin in line with SDG implementation. In July 2020, the 55th ASOSAI Executive Board Meeting officially approved the project with the participation of three SAIs, including Vietnam, Myanmar and Thailand. The audit has been included in the 2020-2022 working plan for the ASOSAI Working Group on Environmental Auditing (ASOSAI WGEA) and the 2019-2021 working plan for the ASEANSAI Knowledge Sharing Committee (ASEANSAI KSC). At yesterday’s online meeting, Vietnam, Thailand and Myanmar signed a Statement of Commitments with terms of reference (ToR) for the cooperative audit, confirming cooperation among the three SAIs and the coordination relationship between the parties to the audit. Accordingly, the cooperative audit is to be carried out in the form of a parallel audit, applying an operational audit type and will be conducted simultaneously by three SAIs. Each participating SAI may apply a different audit method tailored to the needs and interests of each country. The two main objectives of the audit are defining the responsibilities of countries involved in implementing national SDGs in the Mekong River basin, and assessing whether the countries concerned have fulfilled the commitments linked to the implementation of the international SDGs in relation to the management, use and protection of water resources in the Mekong River basin. The SAI of Vietnam, as the …

The Hanoi People's Committee requested the Hanoi Department of Education and Training develop detailed instructions for schools on medical declarations for students when returning to Hanoi from other localities as well as implementing COVID-19 preventative measures in schools. On February 26, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City said it has requested educational units and institutions to build and organise the implementation of plans for epidemic prevention and control in accordance with current best practice, while regularly updating guidance at all levels for timely and effective implementation in each specific period. The department also requires all officers, teachers and students to make a serious and honest medical report upon returning to school from early March, while organising additional medical declarations for inward travel to Ho Chi Minh City during the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year.
