Ho Chi Minh City’s police recently discovered over 11.7 metric tons of vegetables of unclear origin stored at two warehouses belonging to a company in District 8. On Monday, the city’s environmental crime prevention police division was working to bring a charge of trading smuggled food against T.N. Fruits and Vegetables Production & Processing Co. Ltd., which is located at the Binh Dien residential area in the district. Officers from the division detected the firm’s two cold storage warehouses were stowing more than 11.7 metric tons of vegetables packed in foreign-branded packages on November 9. All these goods had no Vietnamese sub-labels and were not accompanied by invoices to prove their origin. A lotus-shaped skylight, a part of Ho Chi Minh City’s first metro line project, is now 50 percent complete and expected to be finished by the end of the year. The skylight, about 27 meters in diameter, is designed to be an architectural feature of Ben Thanh Terminal, located in downtown Ho Chi Minh City. With a lotus-shaped design, the roof of the skylight is made of two main materials, namely glass and aluminum honeycomb panels. The wall glass is covered with a special type of insulation film. Most of the materials were imported from Japan and meet all of the requirements of the design, with outstanding insulation and durability. Upon receiving the letter sent by reader Thuy Vu, Tuoi Tre reporters paid multiple visits to the river section in question. Phuong Trang Bus JSC has recently submitted a proposal to the Department of Transport of Ho Chi Minh City on opening 17 new bus routes connecting Tan Son Nhat International Airport with urban areas, bus stations, university campuses, and seven districts in the city to meet travel needs. The Ho Chi Minh City Forest Protection Department on Wednesday received a 2-meter python weighing about 4kg from a local resident after he caught the reptile inside the trunk of a motorbike parked in a factory in Binh Chanh District. The man, 42-year-old Pham Trong Vinh, and another person used a screwdriver to open the vehicle's trunk in order to catch the python. Vinh guessed that the reptile crawled into the factory from a nearby canal or trees outside before becoming trapped in the motorbike. After receiving the python from Vinh, forest rangers determined that the reptile was a Python bivittatus, which is native to a large area of Southeast Asia and is listed as vulnerable on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List. Authorities in Ho Chi Minh City are investigating the cause of a traffic accident between a traffic police motorcycle and two other motorbikes that severely injured two residents in Thu Duc City on Firday night. The traffic police motorcycle belongs to a traffic police team under the public security division of Thu Duc City, according to a source. Travelers heard a loud bang from the collision between the three said vehicles on Man Thien Street in the city’s Hiep Phu Ward at around 9:15 pm on Friday.
