Several fuel companies in An Giang Province, southern Vietnam have proposed closing gas stations due to falling profits, stoking fears of an impending fuel shortage. Though an adjustment made by the central government on Monday will fuel retailers to bring in profits of VND100-300 per liter of gasoline or oil, industry insiders fear such low commissions are not enough to keep gas stations afloat. “Gas stations can only yield enough profits to survive when they can rake in commissions of VND700-800 per liter. With current commissions, filling stations can only operate in moderation in order to retain customers, but they cannot earn profits,” said an executive from Petrolimex An Giang. “Gas stations with adequate supplies can continue to operate, but those without sufficient supplies may face a partial shortage." Hotelier in Vietnam’s Da Lat fined for offending tourist
The owner of a hotel in Da Lat, a tourist city in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong, was fined VND4 million (US$172) on Wednesday for refusing and discriminating against a tourist. The People’s Committee of Da Lat City issued the fine against N.T.K.T., 57, director of Dream Flower Hotel Co. Ltd., the operator of Dream Flower Hotel on An Binh Street in Ward 3. She also got another VND4 million fine for failing to register the hotel before its opening. The female tourist who filed the complaint had traveled to Da Lat from Ho Chi Minh City during the Lunar New Year, or Tet, and had paid the cost of the room in advance. HCMC wants private investors to renovate road traffic system
The city currently only uses the BOT method to build new road projects. As proposed by the Transport Department to the Department of Planning and Investment, the BOT method will be applied to renovate three highway sections. The projects include the VND12.2-trillion (US$523.67-million) expansion of National Highway 13 in Thu Duc City from 19 meters wide to 40-60 meters wide, a VND12.9-trillion project to enlarge National Highway 1 that links the city with the Mekong Delta from 19 to 52 meters wide, and a VND1.2 trillion project to upgrade National Highway 22 near its northwestern gateway to the industrial hub of Binh Duong Province. Competition heats up among stock brokers
Throughout 2022, the brokerage revenue of 10 leading securities firms on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange (HSX) saw a 19.4 per cent plunge compared to one year ago. VPS, which secures the number-one position for brokerage services in the market, saw its slice sink to 14.81 per cent in the last quarter of 2022, down from 18.71 per cent in the third quarter and 17.12 per cent in the same period of 2021. For the whole of 2022, VPS’s revenue from brokerage services shed more than 9 per cent on-year. The stock market saw great volatility in Q4 last year Meanwhile, the brokerage revenue of SSI, which ranks second among top performers in stock transaction value, took a dip of nearly 60 per cent in Q4 last year alone and witnessed a 32.2 per cent plunge over the whole of 2022. (Photo: Google) Hanoi (VNA) - The world’s most popular search engine Google paid tribute to Suong Nguyet Anh , the first female editor of the first women’s newspaper in Vietnam by posting a drawing of her on its homepage on February 1. On this day in 1918, the first publication of “Nu Gioi Chung” (Women's Bell) newspaper, where Nguyet Anh was editor in chief, was published. The drawing of Nguyet Anh on Google Doodle was illustrated by Hanoi-based guest artist Camelia Pham. In honour of one of her most popular poems based around apricot blossoms, the Doodle artwork incorporates apricot blossoms and an apricot colour palette. Nguyet Anh was born on March 8, 1864, in An Binh Dong village of southern Ben Tre province.
