Vietnam to upgrade three provinces into centrally-run cities

The Hanoitimes - The centrally-run cities are major cities being in charge of driving the development of the whole country. The Government has decided to upgrade three provinces into cities affiliated to the government, also known as centrally-run cities, by 2025. Photo: Kinhtedothi.vn These provinces are the northern province of Bac Ninh, the central province of Thua Thien-Hue and the southern province of Khanh Hoa, which will be added to the list of major cities including Hanoi, Danang, Hai Phong, Ho Chi Minh City and Can Tho. The centrally-run cities are major cities having a developed economy with a political, cultural, economic and social hub. These cities have developed infrastructure and science and technology, many higher education institutions and convenient transportation. They will be in charge of driving the development of the whole country. Bac Ninh province, 30 kilometers from Hanoi, is seen as the center of industrial and export processing zones including industrial parks of HANAKA, Yen Phong, Thuan Thanh, Gia Binh, Que Vo. In 2020, despite having to cope with difficulties and challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, Bac Ninh still managed to make great socio-economic gains. Bac Ninh's economy achieved a growth rate of 1% in the context of a world economic recession, its gross regional domestic product (GRDP) has continued to be expanded to an estimated VND205 trillion (US$8.8 billion), ranking the 7th nationwide, its per capita GRDP is estimated at VND144 million (US$6,222), 2.1 times higher than the national average. Thua Thien-Hue, some 10 kilometers from the beach city of Danang, has set the goal to become a centrally-run municipality by 2025 on the basis of preserving and promoting values of ancient capital’s heritage and Hue cultural identities. Activities held nationwide for Youth Month 2021

The Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union launched a volunteer programme in order to ensure safety and hygiene in the context of the situation of the COVID-19 epidemic. The Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of the Central Agencies Bloc in coordination with the Thai Nguyen Provincial Youth Union launched a tree planting festival in Dai Tu District, Thai Nguyen Province, on February 28. On the occasion, the two units also presented gifts worth a total of over VND200 million to policy beneficiary families and disadvantaged students in the district. A volunteer programme has been launched by the municipal Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union to educate young people about the revolutionary tradition. The Hanoi Municipal Youth Union launched a tree planting festival in Soc Son District, Hanoi. At the festival, the organising board donated 6,000 green trees worth nearly VND300 million, along with a social house worth VND50 million to a policy beneficiary family in the district. The Bac Giang Provincial Youth Union began the construction of Ben Mong Bridge in Luc Nam District. The bridge has a total cost of about VND2 billion. Once completed, the bridge is expected to help local people travel quickly and safely. Danang’s travel restrictions lifted

The Hanoitimes - Danang continues to thoroughly implement measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus. The Vietnamese Ministry of Transport has decided to allow providers to resume all passenger transport services to and from Danang from 0:00am of September 7 as Covid-19 has been put under control in the beach city. Photo: Vietjet Air To prevent the spread of the virus, passengers are requested to wear face mask, declare health status, and those having smart phones should install Bluezone, a domestically developed contact-tracing mobile app, to alert people about those who have come in close contact with Covid-19 carriers. Regarding air services, from September 7 to September 10, every day, Vietnam Airlines will operate a two-way flight between Hanoi and Danang, departing from Hanoi at 16:05 and from Danang at 18:05; one round trip flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Danang, departing from Ho Chi Minh City at 16:05 and from Danang at 18:20. After September 11, the airline will update the flight schedule according to the disease situation and the authorities' requests. Low-cost carrier Vietjet will also operate one flight from Danang to Hanoi/Ho Chi Minh City daily from September 8. Earlier, from September 5, the city’s authorities eased social distancing by allowing public passenger transport within the city to operate again, but vehicles are not permitted to carry more than half of their capacity. Authorities in Danang and neighboring Quang Nam province have agreed to reopen passenger bus routes between the two localities. The two localities also agreed on measures to manage and supervise the health conditions of permanent and temporary residents.
