Veteran keeps historical memories
PANO - Veteran To Kuong, a native in Kien Tuong town, the Mekong Delta province of Long An, has been trying to preserve historical values of his home town for many years. In front of his home stands a copper statue of two young soldiers proudly raising the national flag by a cannon. The statue depicts the feat-of-arms of Moc Hoa-Kien Tuong troops and people who fired the cannon at French battleships during the resistance war in Southern Vietnam. To Kuong, a former soldier of Division 8 and the former Chairman of the Moc Hoa Town Fatherland Front Committee, Long An province, cast the statue. To make this masterpiece, the veteran spent three years collecting documents relating to the feat-of-arms, four years designing and six months moulding it. His good deed has received much applause from local authorities, veterans and people. An exhibition featuring old maps and other historical documents that show Viet Nam's sovereignty over the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagoes openedin Bac Kan. The event, titled "Viet Nam's Hoang Sa and Truong Sa - Historical Evidence", was co-organized by the Bac Kan Departent of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Department of Information and Communication and the Naval High Command. The event is an activity in response to the Party's resolution on Vietnam Marine Strategy to 2020 aiming at the masses to introduce the historical evidence on Viet Nam's sovereignty over the Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) islands. “Hoang Sa, Truong Sa belong to Vietnam – historical evidences” Exhibition
The opening ceremony of an exhibition titled "Hoang Sa, Truong Sa belong to Vietnam - Historical evidences" co-held by the Ministry of Information and Communication and Ha Tinh provincial People's Committee from 2 to 8 June in Ha Tinh has attracted the attention of the public. On display are 200 maps and documents, scientific researches, artifacts and publications which have been published so far by the researchers, scholars at home and abroad. These are historical and legal evidences affirming Vietnam's sovereignty over Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos.
