At a Saturday conference in Harvard University on Vietnam's development strategy in the 21st century, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said Vietnam's economy has expanded into the fourth largest economy in ASEAN and among the world's top 12 economies with the largest scale of commerce. The country also takes part in 15 active FTAs, he said. Economist David Dapic said Vietnam taking part in FTAs was a major success. Millions of farmers have moved on to work in factories as a result. But the fact that most materials for production are imported from China is a weakness, he added. When the Covid-19 pandemic broke out, borders were closed and there was commercial tension, Vietnam's exports were affected, Dapic said. Vietnam's trade turnover with the U.S. may reach $100 billion this year. Microplastics can go directly into the lungs during daily activities. A group of biologists and researchers from the University of Science and Education under Đà Nẵng University has reported their independent survey and research on microplastic pollution in the central hub, the first of its kind in central Việt Nam. Common types of microplastics in the air that had been collected in a four-month survey in six districts of Đà Nẵng City between 2021-22 were only observed by microscope with sizes from 850 to 900 micrometres. Photo courtesy of the firm Hoa Phat Group had the highest revenue and profit among five Vietnamese firms listed in the Top 2,000 largest companies in the world in 2022 (Global 2000) announced by Forbes. It is also the only Vietnamese production firm in the list. Forbes collected the latest financial data as of April 22, 2022 to rank businesses globally according to four criteria including revenue, net profit, total assets and market capitalisation. The other Vietnamese firms included in the list are all banks: Vietcombank, Vietinbank, BIDV and Techcombank. In 2021, Hoa Phat recorded VND150.8 trillion (US$6.5 billion) in revenue and reached a net profit of VND34.5 trillion for the first time, up 65 per cent and 156 per cent respectively compared to 2020. Vietnam’s path to becoming a cybersecurity powerhouse
Decisive factors Cybersecurity plays an important role in accelerating the national digital transformation process. According to Trinh Ngoc Minh, a member of the Executive Committee of Vietnam Information Security Association’s (VNISA) southern branch, Vietnam has significantly improved its data privacy protection capabilities and was listed among the top 25 countries and territories (out of 194) in the 2020 Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI). Minh said investment and interest in Vietnam's cybersecurity have been growing, with spending in this field increasing 50 percent and numerous domestically developed information security products put into use.
