AstraZeneca Vietnam and Vietnam Young Physicians Association last week hosted the "Community Day 2019" in Hanoi, in partnership with the Vietnam Lung Association, the Ministry of Health and other institutes. The event gathered about 3,000 participants including 1,000 people at risk of diabetes, AstraZeneca employees and volunteers. “Community Day 2019” was organized with the theme "Early action for a healthy community" and activities geared towards raising awareness and prevention for Diabetes, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and cancer. The event provided a free package to the community with blood sugar and blood pressure test, lung function check and early breast cancer screening. Besides, free diet consultations and road-show to promote disease education had attracted many young people. Long distance runs are off and running in Vietnam
These days, there are all sorts of runs every month in many parts of the country. The Vietnam Mountain Marathon just ended late September in Sa Pa while the Dalat Ultra Trail was held in March in the scenic hill resort town. VnExpress Marathon, after a successful debut this year, is coming back to the south central beach town Quy Nhon for the second edition next June. For city road runners, the VP Bank Hanoi Heritage Marathon is held this weekend, the Techcombank HCM International Marathon happens in December and the next HCMC Marathon comes up in January 2020. Besides the big runs, triathlons are also catching on and runners' clubs have been established. All this has happened in surprisingly quick time. Tourists don’t have much to spend on in Vietnam: forum
The problem of visitors’ not spending much during their stay in the country was a hot topic discussed at the Vietnam Travel and Tourism Summit 2019 held in Hanoi Monday. Ngo Hoai Chung, Deputy General Director of Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, noted that Vietnam's tourism has developed rapidly in recent years. Between 2016 and 2018, the average growth rate of international visitors to Vietnam was 12.8 percent. In 2018, the country welcomed 15.5 million visitors, an increase of 19.9 percent year-on-year, contributing about 8.5 percent to the GDP. In the first 11 months of this year, the number of foreign arrivals reached 16.3 million, up 15.5 percent over the same period last year. Despite these impressive figures, industry insiders said the tourism industry needs to find ways to make visitors stay longer and spend more.
