People in Hai Duong join hands to support Covid-19 prevention forces

Many people in Hai Duong have joined hands to provide food for Covid-19 prevention and control forces. The current Covid-19 situation in the northern province of Hai Duong has remained complicated, so all local check-points have continued to be maintained around-the-clock. Lots of residents in Hai Duong have provided food to those working on the anti-Covid work. For instance, 103 households in a local residential area contributed 10 kilos of rice, one chicken and vegetables each. Many charity groups have been set up to assist Hai Duong’s Covid-19 prevention and control task forces. Hua Hai Linh, a person in Hai Duong City, said that her family called on some other neighbours to jointly cook dishes for people who are on duty at Covid-19 check-points. Lots of residents in Hai Duong have provided food to those working on the anti-Covid work Linh said, initially, the families contributed VND4 million (USD173.91) for the work, but later the costs sharply increased. However, they agreed to use their own money. According to Linh, she and other members from the group have to provide the food quite late. They often come back home at 2 am. After that they then have to go to market to buy products for cooking dishes the next day. Despite the hard work, they feel happy to make contributions to the anti-Covid-19 work. Vu Thi Lien along with her sister and friends have cooked sticky rice for the free supply to Covid-19 check-points in the province, prioritising those in districts such as Cam Giang and Kim Thanh. Initially, Lien prepared only 100 sets of meat sticky rice, but the following days, the figure increased to 150. Her family’s two cars have been used for the sticky rice distribution. …

Support for domestic pharmaceutical industry to rise in Vietnam

Domestic pharmaceutical firms will play an increasingly dominant role in Vietnam. (Photo: gmp.com.vn) Hanoi (VNS/VNA) - The Vietnamese Government's support for the local pharmaceutical industry will remain steadfast, according to Fitch Solutions . Under a report released last week, the UK-based financial information group said this was in part driven by the authorities' push to meet domestic healthcare needs. In addition, the economic potential of the pharmaceutical sector will incentivise continued Government support for the domestic industry. Although the Government aims to increase the share of locally produced pharmaceuticals to 80 percent, an average of 55 percent of medicines in Vietnam are imported every year. One of the reasons for Vietnam’s reliance on imports is that most domestic companies lack research and development capabilities, and do not meet the European Union Good Manufacturing Practice (EU-GMP) or Pharmaceutical Inspection Co-operation Scheme Good Manufacturing Practice (PIC/S-GMP) standards required to manufacture high-quality generic drugs. Further, Vietnam imports more than 90 percent of drug inputs, half of which are from China. According to Fitch, partnerships with local firms are integral. As a result of Government initiatives, domestic pharmaceutical firms will play an increasingly dominant role in Vietnam. “This accentuates the need for multinational pharmaceutical companies to partner with local drugmakers to adapt to this trend. Finding a local company to start such a joint venture is an important first step to enter the market in Vietnam ,” Fitch said. Foreign companies often work with domestic companies, such as Diethelm Vietnam, Zuellig Pharma Vietnam, and Mega Lifesciences, to fill in different needs in the supply chain. Fitch forecast a shift from pharmaceutical production to a more research-based industry was likely. The boost in attractiveness of the Vietnamese market comes at a time when the business …
