(VOVworld) - Vietnam and Bulgaria aim to strengthen bilateral relations in all areas towards a strategic partnership. During talks in Sofia on Thursday, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and his Bulgarian counterpart Boico Borisov agreed to promote economic and trade cooperation. Vietnam praised Bulgaria’s decision to enlist Vietnam as an ODA recipient partner and welcomed Bulgaria’s investment in Vietnam. Prime Minister Borisov supported early finalization of a framework agreement on Vietnam and EU comprehensive cooperation and partnership as well as a free trade agreement between Vietnam and the EU. Vietnam and Bulgaria will apply an economic cooperation model approved by the two sides to bring bilateral ties to a full-on strategic partnership in the future, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and his visiting Bulgarian counterpart Plamen Vasilve Oresharski agreed Monday. Vietnam and Thailand have agreed to elevate bilateral relations to the level of strategic partnership. The agreement was confirmed in talks held in Bangkok on June 25 between visiting General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Nguyen Phu Trong and Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra. Trong and Shinawatra said that the partnership will mainly focus on regional and international cooperation on political and socio-cultural issues, economic relations, as well as issues relating to national defense and security, the Vietnam News Agency reported the same day. The two leaders pledged to boost two-way trade to US$15 billion in 2020 from over $8.6 billion last year. Talks were held between the two leaders, who agreed to upgrade the Vietnam-Italy relations to the strategic partnership. They expressed the satisfaction over the development of bilateral ties and signing of the Joint Statement on the establishment of strategic partnership during Mr. Trong's visit.
