Young Hanoians flock into Hang Ma street ahead of Christmas

The Hanoitimes - Hanoi’s street is becoming colorful when Christmas approaching.. Hang Ma street in Hanoi’s Old Quarter, filled with colorful decorations has become a snapshot venue for Hanoi’s youngsters in the days ahead of Christmas. Christmas is in the air, especially at Hang Ma street where traders are selling toys and decorations for the season. Items sold in Hang Ma street changed according to festive season. The hottest sales for the moment are Santa Claus figurines, bells, reindeer, among others. Christmas trees, snowmen, and golden bells. Some shoppers said that this year people go shopping earlier than previous years, joking that tpossibly want this to-be-forgotten year 2020 to end soon. Vendors on Hang Ma street have also prepared merchandise earlier this year in the hope that a good Christmas sale would make up for a difficult year. Santa Claus outfits are one of the most popular items sold at the stores. A suit for children is being sold at VND150,000 (US$6.5) to VND300,000 (US$13), depending on size. The mane of reindeer horns is priced at only VND20,000 (US$0.8) or more. The decorative color of Christmas trees this year includes white, pink and platinum. As Christmas nears, colorful decorations have already been sold at various shops and stores along Hang Ma street in Hanoi. The statue of Santa Claus with a large size is priced from VND800,000 (US$34.7) to VND1.5 million (US$65). Hang Ma street: a glittering space of buoyant businesses

The Hanoitimes - Hang MaStreet full of vibrant colorall year round is a distinct space amidHanoi’s Old Quarter and an attractive tourist destinationof Hanoi capital. Hang Ma Street originally belonged to Vinh Thai village (its eastern part) and An Phu village (its western part), HauTuc circumscriptionand then its administration was changed to Dong Xuan circumscription of ThoXuong district. In the French colonial time, the street was called Hang Dong(Rue du Cuivre) but the people still distinguishedbetween two streets: Hang Ma street originating from Hang Duong street and ending atthe present Hang Dong street and the old Hang Dong streetoriginating atthe current oneand ending in Phung Hung street because there are also some shops selling bronze items. Hang Ma street always looks splendidly colorful In 1945, both streetsmerged into Hang Ma street, to avoid confusion with the current Hang Dong street located in the north of Bat Su street. There’re some families who were from Tan Khai village (Hang Sat and Cong Duc streets), settled and opened joss paper and paper ornament shops in this street.They sold paper ornaments and small joss paper which is sheets of paper burned in traditional ancestor worship ceremoniesand  during special holidays.Vinh Thai communal house later changed its name to VinhHanh is located at No. 19 Hang Duong Street. AnPhu communal house is located at No. 56 Hang Ma street (the communal house is connected to No. 17 Hang Ruoi street). Hang Ma Street dwellers formerly specialized in making joss paper such aspaper flower with stem, shoes, clothes, hat, housefor burning as offerings in ancestor worship ceremonies, from which  the street name derived. Hanoians enjoy oldest spring flower market in Hang Luoc street

The Hanoitimes - Visiting Hang Luoc flower market as Tet (Lunar New Year) approaching is an elegant hobby of Hanoiains. Hanoians enjoy visiting one of the oldest flower markets in Hang Luoc street, which is held annually on the occasion of the traditional Tet holiday. This is an elegant hobby of Hanoians before the Lunar New Year. Many visitors to the traditional flower market wear face masks as regulated to prevent Covid-19 transmission risks. Functional forces supervise the Covid-19 prevention rule compliance at the market. Local visitors not only shop peach flowers, kumquat and ornamental trees but also enjoy the Tet atmosphere at the market. The flower market in Hang Luoc street in Hanoi’s Old Quarter was established over 100 years. It is considered as the oldest flower market in the capital. Local sellers on the street are busily preparing flower pots for sales.
