The annual October book festival has become a must-visit destination for book lovers in the capital. The 8th Hanoi Book Festival will return to the pedestrian area of Hoan Kiem Lake in downtown Hanoi from October 6 to 8, helping to spread reading culture to many local and international readers, according to the city's Department of Information and Communication. The event, which has become a popular cultural rendezvous for bookworms, is one of the activities to celebrate the 69th anniversary of the capital's Liberation Day (October 10, 1954-2023) and the 71st anniversary of the traditional day of Vietnam's book publishing, printing and distribution sector (October 10, 1952-2023). Hanoi seminar looks to reinforce tourism links with France

Festival preserves values of Vietnamese craft villages

The event will be co-organised by the Department of Cooperatives and Rural Development under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), and the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. A wide range of activities are on schedule, including a ceremony to honour excellent craftsmen, an opening ceremony, an art programme, an international exhibition introducing craft products and those under the One Commune One Product (OCOP) programme, and an international workshop on preservation and development of craft villages. Vietnamese people enjoy long lifespan, suffer diseases longer than other SE Asians
The life expectancy of men and women in Vietnam ranks fifth and second, respectively, in Southeast Asia but Vietnamese people have to live with diseases for a longer time than those in other regional countries, for 10 years on average, according to the World Health Organization and the Vietnamese Ministry of Health. The World Health Organization reported that Vietnamese people’s average life expectancy increased to 73.7 years before inching down to 73.6 in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The extended time they spend suffering from diseases significantly affects their quality of life. There are three key reasons for the prolonged illnesses of the Vietnamese people, namely nutrition, lifestyle, and environmental factors, according to experts. Vietnam makes efforts to develop domestic carbon market

Following the Paris Climate Accords , Vietnam must fulfill its mandatory obligation to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from 2021 according to the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC). The country also needs to make efforts to reduce GHG emissions towards the goal of net-zero emissions by 2050. Vietnam opposes China’s ship identification stations in Hoang Sa
Vietnam has objected to China’s deployment of two automatic ship identification stations in the Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago in the East Vietnam Sea, considering it a violation of Vietnam’s sovereignty, the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Monday. “China’s installation and operation of two automatic ship identification stations at Da Bac [North Reef] and Da Bong Bay [Bombay Reef], part of Vietnam's Hoang Sa, is a violation of Vietnam's sovereignty over the archipelago,” foreign ministry spokeswoman Pham Thu Hang stressed at a press conference in Hanoi on Monday.
