Two whales have been found dead on a beach in the central province of Ha Tinh. The mammals were detected on a beach in Cuong Gian Commune by local residents on March 26 and 28. One weighed 25 kilos and the other 50 kilos. Both of them were already decomposing. The two whales have been found on the Ha Tinh beach Local authorities and people hold a burial ceremony for the whales in line with the locality’s customs. Whale worshipping is common among Vietnamese fishermen who believe that whale spirits protect them at sea. Vietnam’s Dong Nai green-lights $3bn urban area project
The People’s Committee of Dong Nai Province, a neighbor of Ho Chi Minh City, gave its approval to the development of the Hiep Hoa urban area project covering 293 hectares of land on Pho Islet in Hiep Hoa Ward, Bien Hoa City on Tuesday, budgeting an estimated investment of over VND72.2 trillion (US$3 billion). Vo Tan Duc, deputy chairman of the Dong Nai People’s Committee, signed a decision approving the project, which is expected to accommodate 31,600 people. The total area of the project includes 84 hectares for living, making up 28.8 percent, 110 hectares for green spaces, nearly 35 hectares for both of these purposes, over 14 hectares for public facilities, 43 hectares for traffic, and 3.8 hectares for technical infrastructure. Ho Chi Minh City seeks to build footbridge in downtown area
Authorities in Ho Chi Minh City on Tuesday morning surveyed the planned site of a pedestrian bridge connecting Nguyen Hue Walking Street and the Bach Dang Wharf Park in District 1. A representative of the Ho Chi Minh City Road Traffic Infrastructure Management Center told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper that the center would report the survey results to the municipal Department of Transport. The footbridge is expected to help residents move from the city’s downtown area to the Bach Dang Wharf Park safely. At present, residents have to cross Ton Duc Thang Street with heavy traffic. After being revitalized and reopened to the public at the end of 2021, the Bach Dang Wharf Park has attracted a high number of visitors. In Vietnam, 18-month-old baby has ovary removed due to ovarian torsion
An 18-month-old baby in Nghe An Province, north-central Vietnam had to have one of her ovaries removed due to late detection of her ovarian torsion. Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital confirmed on Wednesday that an 18-month-old baby girl was rushed to the emergency room due to ovarian torsion. The young patient, H.T.U., residing in Quynh Luu District, Nghe An, had a high fever above 38.5 degrees Celsius three days ago, her family said, adding that the baby girl was on medication but her condition did not improve. Doctors performed an abdominal ultrasound on the patient and found that her right ovary was three centimeters, which was an abnormal size, while blood flow to the organ was also cut off. The patient was then diagnosed with ovarian torsion. The baby underwent a 30-minute-long endoscopic surgery, but it was too late. The right ovary was already necrotic and unable to heal, so it had to be removed. Hanoi intensifies efforts to combat smuggling and trade frauds ahead of Tet holiday
